Helmetless Phuket man, 36, dies from head injury after motorbike collision with car

PHUKET: -- The EMS unit at Thalang Hospital was unable to save a 36-year-old man whose head was smashed in a motorbike collision with a speeding car this evening on the north of the island.

Thalang Police were notified at 5 p.m. of an accident that occurred on the southbound traffic lane of Thepkrasattri Rd, near the U-turn for Ban Muangmai in Moo 5 of Thalang's Thepkrasattri sub district.

At the scene of the accident, police found a black Toyota Camry parked on the shoulder of the road with a damaged bumper, and smashed front right side, headlight and windshield.

Out in the middle of the road, near the island that separates the two lanes, there was a totaled red and black Honda Wave motorbike.

"Despite their best efforts, doctors were unable to save him, citing a heavy loss of blood."

So he died because of loss of blood, not because his skull was crushed and his brain smashed because he was not wearing a helmet. Let alone a "proper" helmet.

How many people have to die of head injuries because they did not wear a proper helmet, before Thailand wakes up?

I would like to see large billboards showing the gruesome pictures of dead motorbike drivers who died because they did not wear a helmet, with a caption something like, "This man did not think he needed to wear a helmet. Do you think like him?." coffee1.gif

Apparently, yes, and that conclusion was arrived at by doctors without gratuitous sensationalising of the incident.

They are too busy with saving them from alcohol with useless timing restrictions and from smoking with gruesome pictures.

Just saw a headline today that they consider to do traffic/safety education in school.

Oh really?

Welcome to the 21st century.

I ask my neighbor( the Mea Noi of the mayor) in Pattaya why her 16 year old son was not wearing a helmet and was told that " The helmet did not make him look hansom".Many people in the western world driving on extremely fast highways would not be wearing their seat belts if it didn't cost a lot to be caught without it because it could muss their.clothing. Ignorance iis its own reward. There are so many of these dummies killing them self's that the Darwin Awards do not even list them anymore.
