EU referendum: David Cameron 'hopeful' of February deal

LONDON: -- David Cameron says he is "hopeful" of reaching a deal with European leaders in February that will allow him to hold the UK's EU referendum.

The prime minister said the in-out vote "would follow" if agreement was reached on his reforms at next month's summit. He also said he would stay on as PM even if he ended up on the losing side.

He told Andrew Marr he did not think a UK exit was "the right answer" but promised "everything necessary to make it work" if there was a vote to leave.

He has not asked for much and when he gets less than what he asked for it will be interesting

how he spins it into a substantial concessions by the rest of the EU and a personal victory. whistling.gif

At best he'll be allowed to hold a nonbinding referendum to save political face.

Otherwise he'll be told a committee will be formed to review UK's role in the EU and get back in a couple years.

Either way Cameron's ego is bigger than his political power.

The BBC gets more and more banal every day....
