Hello All,

how should I consider my chances on a scale from 1-10

to get another 1y multiple entry Non-O issued in Penang?

Here are some facts:

The last 3 years my visa was extended by Suan Phlu due to work permits

After that I got unemployed

I went to Penang last year and was issued a 1y multiple Non-O

without any questions or problem.

Worked 3 month this year with work permit and a 1 year extension (Suan Phlu).

Lost my job due to company shut down.

My visa was still good and I could simply cross the border to receive another 3 month stamp

My son is Thai (14y) and I am 57 years old, not married to a Thai.

Unfortunately I do not have 800.000 Baht in my bank for the retirement visa

and I am not old enough to receive my pension.

I am holding an EU passport.

Shall I try Penang or fly to my home country in Europe?

Thanks in advance.

I've heard Panang no longer offers the 1-year, multiple O visa, but Kuala Lumpur and Singapore still do. That's a lot shorter trip than going all the way back to Europe in the winter!

Is that the case even if you don't have a work permit? And don't qualify under "retirement" criteria?

Cheers,

I think you are going to be out of luck seeking a non-'O' in either Singapore or KL without all of the proper paperwork. At best you might get a single-entry but even that could be pushing it.

I very much appreciate if one of the members can tell

about his experiences in KL and/or Singapore.

Flying to Europe is a very expensive matter too and I hope

I can avoid the trip trip which will cost at least 4 times times more than a trip to KL or Penang!

The few responses to my question in this forum gives the impression nobody

does really know "do they issue or do they not issue...?"

Has Sunbelt any information on that.

Thanks

A number of years ago before I turned 55 I used to go to Penang to get the non-immigrant visa to stay in Thailand. My son was 6 years old then and I took his Thai birth certificate and a letter from his school stating that he was a student. The reason for the visa would be to stay with my son.

Never had a problem getting a visa. When I turned 55 then I got the retirerment visa. (Now retirement visa has been lowered to 50)

Hope this info is helpful.

Spaniel,

is that a letter simply stating that my son is "attenting school at... and is joing class..." ?

Thanks

To get the 1 year Non O in Singapore you need to be married to a Thai and take the following doccuments..

Copy of marriage cert.

Copy of wifes passport.

Copy of wifes ID card.

1 passport photo.

$220 Singapore Dollars for a 1 year multiple entry.

(take copy of wifes household registration would not hurt)

Many success stories from Singapore lately, i too am going there next week so ill let you know how it goes. But you must be married to a Thai for a 1 year Non O from Singapore, but yes, they still issue 1 year Non O's................................

Hi,

I wrote in my first posting I am not married but have a son

which is Thai. I do not even have "legal custody" but support my son.

Next year he will live permanently with me. No objections from his mother!

In all those years I never faced any problem to get a multiple-o visa issued

when I was not employed.

Right now there are very "scary" stories circulation and it looks to me

no more multiple 1y visa even if you have a Thai relative which needs my support

and definitely get my support including the entire family around... But thats another story.

what I read in this forum is "not married - no multiple non-o"

Am I right?

You need to call the Thai Embassy in Singapore, and speak to them personally or at least e-mail them with your situation, they will reply usually the next day. I think you might Qualifiy for a Non O because your son is Thai, but im not sure, and im sure you will need to provide doccuments to proove who he is and where he lives. Once again call the embassy, its up to them, they are the ones who will issiue your visa. Most people get the Non O based on marriage, which is easy, but there are many other catagories you can apply for a Non O under, and I think one is Family.

- other activities (Category "O")

2. DOCUMENTS REQUIRED***

The applicants must submit the following relevant documents depending on the purpose of their visit.

- Visa application form completely filled out

- Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months and its copy

- Two recent photograph full-faced, bareheaded photos taken within the past six months (passport-sized photograph or 2 1/2 inches)

- A photocopy of a birth certificate of your child ("O") –If using your children to sponsor

I got that from the Thai consulate in Sydney's website. Clearly you can use your son as a sponsor as long as you can proove he is Thai. Unless they have changed that without updating their website.........................

Im sure all consulates or embassy's could issue you a non O if your son is Thai, because they all follow the same guidelines..............

I am new to this forum. I am 51. I am a US citizen. I have lived in Thailand since 1999. I left because I decided to no longer tolerate the TOXIN administrations attack on foreigners. I am in China now. I have been with the same Thai woman since 1999 (commonlaw wife?). We are not married. I paid for a house in central Thailand (one million baht). Because of the new visa rules, it seems that I am now unable to live (long term) in my own house with my commonlaw wife. Why? I do not have a pension. I do not have a business in Thailand. And my monthly income is not high enough to qualify for a retirement visa. Above you stated that it is possible to get a Non O visa and list the requirements. There is no mention of monthly income or any income criteria. Given my situation, if I get married to a Thai woman, is it possible for me to get the Non O visa? Thanks.

Yes, the letter just stated that he is attending Ruam Rudi International School, the dates and of couse that he is a current student. This was on school letterhead and signed by the school director. Good luck.

JR TEXAS If you get married you could apply for a 1 year non Immigrant o. You do not need to show any money to get this visa. You must first get married and show the embassy the marriage cert when you apply. This visa is good for 1 year, but you have to do a border trip every 90 days. If you do a border trip the day before it expires, you will get another 90 days, making your total stay in Thailand possibly 15 months.

Aussiestyle1983: THANK YOU! I know this forum would prefer that people not waste space with THANK YOU notes. But I really appreciate the information.

Good luck to all (WE NEED IT),
