Rubber growers must properly register before they can sell rubber to the state

BANGKOK: Rubber growers must properly register with the Rubber Authority of Thailand in order to be entitled to sell their products to the Public Warehouse Organisation under the government’s price support scheme.

The PWO has been assigned to buy 100,000 tonnes of rubber products directly from rubber growers with funding provided by state-owned banks which include the Government Savings Bank and the Bank of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives.

A new condition was introduced putting a limit of 150 kilogrammes that each rubber grower will be able to sell to PWO, said Mr Suraphol Charupong, spokesman of the Ministry of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives.

Agriculture Minister Chatchai Sarikalaya met with core leaders of rubber growers of 10 northern and northeastern provinces who will also be covered by the government’s price support scheme.

Most rubber growers in the North and the Northeast produce cup rubber or rubber in the circular shape like a ball while rubber growers in the South produce rubber sheets.

About 1,000 purchasing points have been designated in the Northeast and rubber purchases will kick off on January 25.

Rubber, rubber, rubber.......

The more this is in the news, the more I see it turning into a scam.

Caesar was a genius general, but got stabbed in the back after he went too far....

This general's worst fight ever has been with mosquitoes on his back porch = genius he is not.

"About 1,000 purchasing points have been designated in the Northeast and rubber purchases will kick off on January 25."

How could so many posters have got it wrong? I await allegations the registration office is in Hat Yai.

move the rice out move the rubber in

move the rubber out move the ? in

Will the registration process be simple, quick and relatively inexpensive or ....? gigglem.gif

It'll be about as efficient as trying to grow carrots out your ears probably.

However, I have perfected the art of doing just that.

When I ask a restaurant simple questions (you have a soap dispenser in your bathroom - why did you mount it there if you never had any intentions of putting soap in it?)....

They look at me like I have carrots growing out of my ears.

Rubber farmers have to register

Fishermen have to register

Phuket businesses have to register

Anybody else ?whistling.gifwhistling.gif

about time they made any business register so that they are a legal entity and known to the govt for tax and other reasons, too many try to remain hidden and do their selling/trading with no legal authority to do so. When you consider the fact that so many try to remain hidden from the govt to avoid tax etc it makes sense that anyone selling to the govt or elsewhere needs to be a known entity to them and be a registered business.

By register, I hope that includes land documents showing their right to even occupy land, number of trees / rai on said land and production /rai for the season. This should eliminate the reported 1900 rai of rubber trees on national park land, the middle men who have been waaiting for this oppurnity and put the money in the hands of those who worked for it, instead off those who skimmed public funds and used it for personal gain.

The most interesting thing is the limit per farmer of 150kg. This implies the purchases will be spread over 666,000 farmers, or more. (100,000 metric tons to be purchased). At the 45 baht/kg price, this would be 6,750 baht per farmer.

If it is spread around this way, it would be somewhat equitable. However, the magnitude is still only 2.5% of the total crop, so it's hard to see how this will have much benefit.

I'm guessing the rubber farmers will be looking for a substantial expansion of the program.

This was not a government mandate but a rubber farmer mandate:

"The group [the Alliance for the Revival of Rubber Farmers] wants the government to pay farmers registered with the Rubber Authority of Thailand the difference in price, so they can get Bt60 per kilogram for rubber products" The Nation 2015-10-15

Good opportunities for money to be made all round so fill your boots.

So they have been illegal for years (takes many years before rubber tree's produce) but now there's money to be made from the government they suddenly can be legal... Have they paid tax all past years as well?

Farang who overstay 1 day get a fine though and a cigaret butt on the street is 2000 baht fine.

This is a great idea! Now the Plantation Overlords can take their sharecropper's rubber and sell it for them, fairly and transparently. smile.png

You have to love this government. wub.png

It's a legal requirement. guitar.gif

Now, this plan could work.

60 bt./k. people can live on.

30+ ain't easy for many many many.......sad.png

A couple of points;

#1. 150 kgs per applicant? Sh#t, we are doing 220 kgs per day.

#2. January 25th? Another 2-3 weeks at the most, and the tapping season is over in the North and NE. No more tapping, production or selling of produce till end of April.

# Piss up. Brewery. Organise...

The cynics might suggest that #2 is rather the point!

Don't bother we are already registered and have filled the entire purchase quota. tongue.png

if you do that amount you have nothing to worry about.. Your profit is in the volume.. Smaller farmers not so much!

Clarification: I do not own rubber plantations....(although I wish I did with this populist enlightened freebie)...

"Nothing to worry about."

I'm not worried.

Just bummed.

35,000/ton is WAY less then 60-80,000.

Eldest daughter starting Uni. in Bkk this next August.

Imagine the costs.

Apartment, food, transportation, electric and water, TV, phone, clothes, the list goes on.......

And that doesn't even include tuition, books, etc.

And then there's everything else in life.that costs money.

But you are right.

We will make it through.

I know many many folks who have small farms 10-20 rai and they are definitely hurting !

Bought houses and cars when the price was good and now can't make their payments.

Many farms for sale.

This highlights the BIGGEST problem with agriculture in Thailand. Lack of continued educational training and financial resource training.

Ps: save ya money and send her to the local university!

150 kg per farmer? Well would this indeed assure all poor farmers will benefit.
