Easy going and no problems. I went alone this time and just had my wife sign all the required copies before I left. Wasn't sure if she had to be there or not. Now I know for sure. I basically followed the same process from my October post (follow the below link) Nothing has changed.

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/862756-non-imm-o-vientiane-experience-oct-2015/

A few things to note. A highly enlightened individual informed me that they no longer fill the forms for you or allow you to bypass the line if you pay the 40 or 50B they request in the building next to the line to assist you. He was dead wrong. Not only do they still offer this service but there are 2 large signs advertising it. I took advantage of it once again.

The lines were notably shorter in January than they were in October. I went on the 14th (Thursday).

Before I went to Vientiane I visited immigration in Udon Thani for an extension of my previous Non Imm O single entry. They only grant 7 days on this type of visa. I basically wasted 1,900B for 7 days. 2000B will get you a full 90 days in Lao. Don't bother with extensions on this type of visa.

I considered doing a border run (out and in) but with the new crack down going on I figured it would be in my best interest to just get the visa. While waiting to pass through immigration on my way back in several people were warned that next time they are not welcome without a proper visa.

Very large overstay posters are on display at the immigration check point now. They show how long you will be banned for on overstays over 90 days and more. There has been a post on it already so I won't elaborate.

A note to some seeking visa advice. Be careful with what you believe. People like to tell you things that are not necessarily true. Regardless of why they do it, they certainly are not helping anyone. Understand also that things can be very fluid with the way Thai immigration rules are enforced from one situation to the next.

Expenses incurred

Lao visa fee 1,500B

private taxi new van Thai Consulate 200B (tuk tuk wanted same price)

Hotel Soradith 600B

Copies 60B

8 Photos at border 100B

Thai Visa 2000B

Parking at Thai border 100B

Shared ride back to border 100B

2 trips across the bridge 40B

You should have been able to get a 60 day extension at Udon Thani.

This is the second time I have tried to extend a NON IMM O based on marriage at Udon Immigration. Both times I was only given 7 days. So, what I should have gotten and what they will actually give me are two very different things.

2.24 In the case of visiting a spouse or children who are of Thai nationality:
Permission shall be granted for one time and no more than 60 days.
(1) There must be proof of relationship.
(2) In the case of spouse, the relationship must be de jure and de facto.

Why didn't you travel a little further and get a multiple entry non-o visa in Savannakhet. They do them with the same documents you had for the single entry and no financial proof is needed. The fee for the visa is 5000 baht.

I will be headed home before this one expires and I am only 50k from Nong Khai. Quick, easy, and close.

Was your wife with you when you applied for the 60 day extension?

Udon Immigration would only give me 7 days extension on O Visa as well

I needed more so they told me go to do a border run

So, I am not the only one.

Over the last 18 months I have tried both ways ( with and without the wife). Both times I received 7 days. Has anyone actually done this at Udon Immigration and actually received 60 days extension? If you have, details please.

is this in thai somewhere? Can I take this with me to immigration if I have a problem in the future? Anyone tried this with success?
