VIDEO: PM calls on teachers to help strengthen the country

BANGKOK: Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha today encouraged teachers to help the government create understanding of duties, disciplines and respect of laws in order to achieve reconciliation in the country, and to strengthen the country.

His call was made as he presided over the ceremonial opening of the teachers’ fair to mark the 60th National Teachers Day today.

Gen Prayut said today is another significant day that the nation could honour, offer respect and appreciation to teachers who have helped to shape the country’s future.

He said the future of the country is rested with the teachers.

They could teach children to love reading, and create thoughts.

He said the government has always realised of the problems which the teachers are facing and has tried and is doing its best to resolve them.

But he urged that teachers could also help to create understanding, notably in duties, disciplines and respect of laws in order to strengthen the country.

As conflicts still exist, he said any reconciliation needs to adhere to the laws.

He urged teachers and all parties to help develop the country, end the conflicts through trusts which his government is doing with regard to peaceful means.

He assured that the military government won’t reject democracy but would like all people go to the poll which is going on under the roadmap which has been laid down.

Does that mean attitude adjustment being proposed as an actual subject in schools?

"He said the future of the country is rested with the teachers."

So, he's advocating for a gerontocracy.

"They could teach children to love reading, and create thoughts."

As long as those thought don't differ from the government's edicts.

And if the teachers fail, then he has them as well as Mr. T to blame for all the problems.

He forgot to mention the need to keep qualified teachers from working if they are farang. What is obviously needed is more Thais teaching English with the same unintelligible accent that you hear everywhere in the country. English must adjust, not Thai people. biggrin.png

Laws made by the government, for government use only. But the more laws they make, the more criminals they create.

As long as the books they read do not include those by George Orwell.

IMHO teachers expressing support for any government is exactly what Thailand does not need. They should be very very neutral.

Reminds me when my Thai son was at uni, just before an election their home room professor told the whole class that if they did not vote for their local red / udd candidate she would know and they would fail all her classes for the next 2 semesters.

My son came home and he was livid. He went to high school in Singapore and had learned plenty about how democracy works / should work, the need to support and protect the pillars of democracy, etc etc.

Our school admin won't do a thing about the kids coming to school on modified bikes with no helmets or licenses.

Words fail me. coffee1.gif

Is it still 200k baht to 'pass' the teaching exam and get put on top of the waiting list for a job?
