Justice Ministry coordinating with Police after attack on homepage

BANGKOK: -- The Deputy Spokesman of the Royal Thai Police has made known the agency has coordinated with the Ministry of Justice on the disruption of its website but said the origin of the hackers behind the attack have yet to be uncovered.

Deputy National Police Spokesman, Police Colonel Krisana Pattanacharoen, disclosed that the Ministry of Justice’s official homepage has been attacked by the hacker group known as Anonymous. The website has been rendered inoperable due to the attack.

The ministry is coordinating with police on the issue but has yet to file a formal complaint with the Technology Crime Suppression Division.

Police General Krisana let on that initial inspection has indicated the hackers were working from abroad but admitted police have yet to pinpoint their exact location.

On measures following last week’s bomb attack in Jakarta, Indonesia, the deputy spokesman said that an order has been issued for all police divisions to integrate their work and watch over the nation’s tourism destinations and significant sites.

Look forward to the Great Firewall of Thailand, coming soon.

Anonymous has released some of the data they got during the hack;

In total, Anonymous hackers have stolen 1 GB of data which includes documents, payroll, pension information, criminal cases and other day-to-day operations of the institution. After hacking the websites, Anonymous uploaded all of the leaked data to the internet

There is also;

Hackers from ‪#‎anonymous‬ have leaked details of gun registration from the Thai Courts of Justice webservers

Could be interesting to read if you are interested.

"Police General Krisana let on that initial inspection has indicated the hackers were working from abroad but admitted police have yet to pinpoint their exact location."

Inspection of what? You mean they werent waiting at the front door of the police station with name tags on. Ummm, this will be a difficult investigation to solve. Maybe offer a reward if they turn themselves in?

I imagine, the hackers are laughing just as much as we are and they have no doubt whatsoever, that with the RTP on the case, they have no chance of being identified let alone ever discovering from what country they operate.

OMG, thanks for the laughs. laughing is very good for your heath.

in other news... Police General Krisana was having problems with his computer at work. The light on his hard drive was flashing even though he was not using his computer.

Don't think there is any chance of them being located, chances are the police in other countries, the US and the UK for example, would have found them if they could for other attacks.

Let's see, the USA government agencies couldn't find them. The British government couldn't find them. The German government couldn't find them. The Australian government couldn't find them. The Japanese government couldn't find them.

But of course, the Thai government, still using their bootleg copies of Windows XP, will easily track Anonymous down in no time at all. They said so, so it must be true.

Perhaps the coversation between the two Depts. went something like this:

"Listen up, in the course of hacking our sites to simply disable them, Anonymous discovered, much to their amazement and delight, countless documents were available on our open web-server."

"Jing Law?"

"Yes"

"Shall we commence our counter-offensive by changing our passwords from 12345?"

"Yes. All of you using that password are hereby ordered to change it to: 54321"

"Should we continue using bootlegged copies of Windows XT?"

"At the present time, we are in the process of convening a committee and two sub-committies to determine that."

"I have some relatives available to fill some positions!"

"Excellent. That's initiative."

"Will they have to work overtime?"

"What's that?"

Not so sure it would be very difficult for them. They just need to harass a couple of burmy men and I am sure they will get a confession and a pinpointed location in Myanmar as to where the gang is at.

Coordinating is an important govt action...rates right up there with reviewing your Facebook page, nose picking, etc.

Exact location? Planet Earth perhaps?

Although "abroad" is a pretty big place, one would have to assume that they have a list of IP addresses that accessed the servers. It shouldn't take a jiffy to identify the origin of the computer (almost certainly some firm of proxy server or VPN) making the request. From there it gets interesting....

How on earth do you rendered something "useless" inoperable ?

How much are they paying the Police to 'help' them ?

So was this justice department website hacked because of the single gateway or because of the Koh Tao murders court decision...?

Yes, without a doubt, that's how they will find them. ?

Oh.... you know very little about how those attacks work... and how the actual hacks are perpetrated...

I wish the RTP all the luck to find those evil terrorists!

Yeah, but they found also the ebola cure no others could find.

Soon we'll hear that the investigation is 80% complete with arrest warrants to be made out to unnamed persons based on alleged DNA and fingerprint evidence. Prayut will immediately reward the RTP with cash for quickly solving the case.

The investigation will move quickly.

Like a shooting star.

replies to these threads are often comic relief from the general insanity so many live with.

its not thai bashing, like so many will accuse, i do the the same to people/issues from my place of birth.

keep em coming guy and gals

Justice Ministry: "Do we have the perpetrator's name?"

Police: "Yes: Anonymous."

Justice Ministry: " And do we have the given name?"

Police: "No, but we're working on it."

Justice Ministry: "Have we traced Khun Anonymous' IP?"

Police: "Yes. The trail leads to some place called Antarctica."

Justice Ministry: " I don't think we have an extradition treaty with that place. What can we do?"

Police: "We'll announce to our Media that we've put in a request with Interpol for his arrest."

Justice Ministry: "Brilliant. Problem solved.New bungs all round."

Don't underestimate the RTP, there could be method in their madness

Obviously anyone who knows the RTP are coming for them is gonna be losing sleep

All that's left to do now is replace Burmese with insomniacs and start rounding them up

Clouseau eat your heart out

Thai Justice is an oxymoron like Police Intelligence.

Are they sure they were really hacked? Most of these Thai Gov websites are so crappy that they don't work most of the time anyway, no hacking required.

The Thai immigration 90 day online check-in didn't work for months!!!

RTP in difficult position. They are dealing with people who know what they are doing, have expertise. Maybe RTP could sneak a few 13 year olds in to sort out computer issues....

Thanks for "disclosing" this news, I hadn't known. And you think they are working from abroad? Thanks again, I never would have guessed.
