Manhole Cover Remover

Looking to buy a tool to remove a manhole cover. My old one broke. Checked Homepro, Homemart, and Keehin yesterday, to no avail. The broken one was a simple metal rod with a hook on one side and a handle on the other.

The man at Keehin suggested talking to a metalwork company, but I don't know of any. Was hoping for something off the shelf. Would also consider a different design that got a bit more leverage as some of the covers are well and truly stuck after not being opened for many years.

Any suggestions?

I was going to suggest 2 hex keys or Allen keys, with a T piece welded on top, but that would require a metal shop.

I was also going to suggest, as Beechbum has, buying 2 cheap screw drivers, with thin shafts, and bend the ends at 90 degrees. You could probably do it a hammer, over a brick, or solid block of wood. These would be good because they have the handles.

Thanks all. Yes, a pull out.

Found a guy in Kathu that runs a metal shop. Canadian chap. He's working on a thicker gauge bent rod with welded on ring to fit a pry bar. Much more heavy duty than my original. Should be ready in a few days.
