Mahmoud Abbas denounces encouraging violence against Israel

"Anyone who wants to act against security forces, using explosions, weapons or creating cells in any place will be arrested, no matter where he is going. Security measures have been taken following my orders."

RAMALLAH: -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has denounced groups which encourage attacks against Israel.

A surge of violence between the two countries has lasted for four months so far, raising concerns over the potential wider escalation of the conflict.

Abbas spoke out against Palestinians who encouraged youths to take part in the bloodshed.

“All the nation and political parties are supporting the national uprising. But we support a peaceful national uprising. Anyone who wants to act against security forces, using explosives, weapons or creating cells in any place will be arrested, no matter where he is going. Security measures have been taken following my orders,” he said.

His statement came a matter of hours after a 13-year-old Palestinian girl was shot dead by an Israeli security guard she allegedly tried to stab in the occupied West Bank (January 23).

Israeli authorities say it is the third stabbing by Palestinian teenagers in settlements in the course of a week.

Foiled attacks

Palestinian security chief, Major General Majid Faraj, was this week (January 18) quoted as saying Abbas’ forces had thwarted 200 attacks on Israelis and arrested around 100 Palestinians since October, 2016.

Reuters news agency reports that, behind the scenes, Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have been cooperating on security in the West Bank. This, despite blaming each other for the current violence in the area.

Has the penny finally dropped? how many dead do they need to have before they understand

that forcing Israel to do anything is a futile and a miserable existence, let's hope that his message

will be heed....

I read the full article today on YahooNews. In what world is it appropriate to blame the victim for defending himself against a deadly knife attack? The age of the person attempting to murder another is, in my opinion, irrelevant. This 13 year old girl tried to stab a security guard and was shot dead. Seems appropriate to me. And now there will be cries of over reaction, and tears of sadness about her loss. Piece of sh*t!! Stop the attacks for a sustained amount of time and things will improve. Negotiate for reduced restrictions and things will improve. Drop the calls for the destruction of Israel and things will improve. This whole thing reminds of what Golda Meir said about 40 years ago: "Peace will not come to the middle East until Palestinian mothers love their children more than they hate the Israelis".
