Where to go to get away from Pattaya?

Featured Replies

Wouldn't mind getting away from Pattaya for a few days with the mrs n baby. Have our own car but would prefer not having to drive for anymore than 3 hours.

Would like to stay at a decent resort with restaurants near by.

Any suggestions?

Rayong, or Ko Samet, or Khao Yai? I hear Pattaya itself is nice this time of year.

Koh Chang can be reached (ferry terminal) in about 2-3 hours.

Chanthaburi is quite nice too, mountains and national park.

Bang Saray near Sattahip is a fairly quiet town with nice beaches...40 minute ride from Pattaya.

Just did the same "escape" from Pattaya. Look at the Sand Dunes Chaolao Beach Resort Chantaburi. Plenty of great seafood restaurants nearby if not into overpriced resort restaurants.

Rayong has some nice resorts-easy to get to

Over the New Year i went for a few days south of Trat near the Cambodian border, some lovely beaches 3-4 hours drive.

Koh Si Chang is nice and quiet and handy for a Pattaya Escape.

Samed Island feels like a different world to Pattaya, Drive down and park at any of the piers and get a ticket across, from all-inclusive resort or explore and find your own corner of the island...

You don't need to drive for 3 hours to get away from Pattaya. This place is 25 minutes away.

Many nice resorts at Mae Phim, Rayong, a lot of pretty good restaurants there too, Thai, Seafood and European.

You could go North to Bang Saen beach. It's probably less than an hour by car.

Very useful good posting

this interested me initially but Googling revealed many many mixed reviews about the place.

we still like Koh Samer for a 'getaway' and i allocate about B3,000 a day all in for 2+1 at Tom Pizza's place.

I don't think there is any hotel or resort at Silverlake. Is there?

As I did and initially thought it was over priced when suddenly there was a 50% discount on Agoda, which made it more attractive. They are still finalising construction on minor items and given the typical Thai construction methods and finishes, it will deteriorate quickly.

We had an ocean view room in one of the front buildings that also overlooked the swimming pools and it was brilliant. My only complaint was when we tried to dine at the restaurant and the standard of (untrained) service was deplorable at best and 50% of the menu was "no hab". There was only a very limited selection of alcoholic beverages available.

We would go back because of the location and if the price was right, but now knowing the limitations of the resort.

Has anyone stayed at the Marriott Resort that is on the beach in Rayong? Any reports?
