Satellite or internet for UK TV and Netflix?

Featured Replies

I need some opinions here because this is quite new to me: I have a new build house in Bkk and very soon I will need to choose an internet provider/speed to use with 2 smart TVs.

This is what I want:

To watch British TV in the living room and bedroom (i players mostly). Right now I do this with the free Hola download but have the hassle to connecting it to a laptop each time)

Watch Netflix.

Download high res music.

More channels would be a bonus (MTV, movies, some sport).

I saw some houses install satellite dishes presumably for a huge range of channels. I'm not big on watching sport or series but the equivalent to Freeview would suffice.

What would be my best option and what would be the price? Thanks in advance.

Netflix comes over the Internet (and nowadays, so do a raft of IPTV options).

Nothing to do with your satellite dish.

As long as your Interwebs is good enough, you can stream from different sources simultaneously.

Amazon TV Fire sticks (30 quid a pop) will run Netflix and Kodi (IPTV), and just slot into an HDMI port on each TV. Then you connect them to your Wifi.

Added: There are various IPTV options out there running at around 100 quid a year, although there is a fair amount of free stuff available, if somewhat unreliable for premium channels.

Netflix pricing is in another thread, but it's Bt1000 a month or so I believe.

As Chicoq says. Smart tv are ok but better to get a android box or stick. Kodi is good as its free and has everything but can be a bit annoying if you are not very tech minded or just can be bothered.

Services like Illikehd, Expat tv, or 365 sports are cheap enough (250-600 Baht a months depending on content) and reliable with easy to use control systems.

Cue the why would you pay for stuff when you can get it free brigade!

Mobdro is good for sport and news. Tv channels suffer from a lack of hd so looks poor on a 40 inch plus tv.

Not many movies but its decent for free.

I thought Mobdro was down?

Doesn't work for me anyway.
