Where's a good hospital for cardiologic/stroke health issues between Surin and Ubon Ratchathani?

Sawasdee Khrap,

I've just received a phone call of a member of DHV. seeking help and some very important infoirmation for an older man who just recently had a stroke. The cause of his stroke was his heart and we're looking for the best possible hospital.

I thought the Isaan forum is a lot more helpful than posting in the health forum ,as it has to be very soon to get this man into as hospital.

The patient did something against all common sense, signed a document that he'd leave the German hospital against all doctor's advice and flew back to Thailand. He lives in Surin, Prasat area and needs a complete heart check, including a certain EKG, plus a complete blood check. He's already on a newer European medication with side effects, that might have to be changed. The doctor should be competent in his/her field.

The caller who informed me is a doctor and knew some background information of the guy. The stroke was caused by his heart problem and he needs to see a competent cardiologic doctor immediately.

I've heard that there's a private hospital in Surin as well, is there a cardiologist with a good reputation? What about the government hospital? I was there a couple of times to visit people, but have no idea if that would be the right place to bring him to?

I thought that Ubon Ratchathani would be the best address, but I'd be more than happy to hear anything positive from members who had some heart issues and know where to go to.

Another issue is to find somebody in Prasat/ Surin area ( of course not for free) who would take care of two dogs for the time the man will be at a hospital. It will only be for a few days, not weeks.

Thanks a lot in advance for any useful tips. The patient does not have an insurance but he'll be able to pay out of his wallet.

By far, the best heart hospital in Isaan is Queen Sirikit in Khon Kaen. However it is quite a distance from Prasat.

If you cannot find something suitable by you, it would well be worth the visit up.

There is a cardiologist at RuamPaet Hospital in Surin -in fact 2 I think. Only there limited hours as most likely work for the government hospital.

Thanks a lot. He'll be there tomorrow morning and it seems that it's the best address to get him checked. He needs a diagnosis of temporary arrhythmia's with a long- time EKG to get his cerebral and coronary circulation, plus a full blood check.

Then the right medication to keep his blood thin enough to avoid another stroke, or heart attack. His friend, the doctor who informed me, found out that the given treatment by a German hospital might not be the right medication under these circumstances.

I've only heard good statements about the hospital and the stroke unit seems to be really good. Any patients who had a stroke and make it to this hospital within 7 hours max., will have the best chances that the stroke won't leave the ordinary syndromes.

I'll report back and hope that the 68 year old gentlemen will soon be able to ride his Harley again. thumbsup.gif

Thanks for the post. I understood Huam Phet, listening to my wife. wai.gif

Thank you very much. The gentlemen will visit the privat hospital in Surin, which seems to be a good place for now, if things do not look great there, I'll do all to get him to Khon Kaen.

.

he'll go to the Surin hospital tomorrow morning and might be able to feed his dogs from time to time. Or somebody from the hospital? WE'll see.

Thanks a lot. wai2.gif

Best wishes to him. Keep us updated on his progress.

Queen Sirikit is called the 'heart centre of the North East'.

The hospitals mentioned in Khon Kaen (Sinakarin Hospital) and Korat (Bangkok Hospital) are good.

Ruamphaet in Surin (BTW there are 2 hospitals with this name in Surin) doesn't even come close, especially for cardiology.

Khon Kaen (Sinakarin Hospital) is that the one in the university grounds?

Yes, Srinakarin is the Government Hospital in the university grounds.

Queen Sirikit, the main heart hospital is also in the university, but it is on the main road, Mittraphap Road (highway 2).

Thanks. I am 65 and my wife 55 and I am looking for a good hospital to do general check ups on a regular basis. Which hospital would be best do you know?

I, personally, would recommend Srinakarin. However, they are literally a stones throw away from each other, therefore, if you have time, you could visit both and ask the necessary questions, price etc., before opting for one or the other.

Sawasdee Khrap,

A short update.

He's fine at the mentioned Surin hospital and might may go home tomorrow evening, if they know what follow up medication is needed.

But thanks a lot for so many useful posts, really deeply appreciated. He's got a female cardiologist, who seems to know what she's doing. sad.png

Can imagine him sitting on his Harley in a few days, even when it's gettin' harder to pull the clutch.....a biker is a biker. No age restriction there. thumbsup.gif

Keep on smiling in the Land of Smiles. !!! biggrin.png

He's back home and I had him on the phone for quite a while. He was asking them already on Saturday if they accept credit cards and they said they would. There's no way to keep more money safe over night when you're in emergency care.

He's already dressed, had green light from the doctor to go home, when he wanted to go for little boys. But there's still the iron around his bed that he had to climb over and when he told the nurse that he needed to pee, she brought him a plastic bottle to pee in?

He even offered to leave his passport, or to use online banking inside the hospital, he had nobody to get him some money and they didn't let him got to the bathroom, because they thought he'd run away without paying the bill?

Nothing against the quality of the treatment, but you can't treat a well educated man with enough money to stay in this hospital for a year, or so like a thief in the night.

I assume the the nurse was only following orders, but having such problems that nobody's even offering him a trip to an ATM is insane.

Would anybody give a nurse the ATM card with the PIN? I doubt it.

I know that plenty of foreigners can't pay their bills, but that shouldn't be weight on an honest older man's shoulder, who's already got problems with his blood pressure.

The person who picked him up had enough money to pay the bill and he was able to leave the place and to go to a proper toilet his choice.

I don't know how I would react, to be honest. A good paying private patient treated like an <deleted>?

They have had problems with some less than respectable farangs in the past, so maybe (unfortunately) we all get tarnished with the same brush.

Glad he's on the mend!

I can vouch for RuamPaet Hospital in Surin.

I spent months there after my stroke in 2008, albeit with some time in Bangkok hospital in Bangkok where I had a life saving tracheostoma
