I need to do a same day out / in in order to activate the second entry of my (final) double entry tourist visa.

Flight tickets to Pai are cheap right now. Is it reasonable to cross to either Myanmar or Laos from Pai? Do the Thai officials prohibit same day out/in visa runs?

I have read older information about crossings to Laos with a motorcycle. I will have no vehicle; is a crossing using public transportation feasible?

From that region of Thailand, can I get into Myanmar without a previously issued visa? Is there a one day visitor pass?

Any information on travel times appreciated! Thanks.

I have no travel information but if you are in possession of a valid visa you can use any International border crossing to activate a second entry.

Crossing into another county involves purchasing a visa for that country. The only exception being if you are the citizen of a country which has an agreement to allow visa exempt entry, most Westerners, for example, can secure visa exempt entry into Malaysia.

The normal border hop from Pai is via Mae Sai, Myanmar. I think you need to change buses in Chiang Rai. It is not quick, but has the virtue of being pretty cheap. Leave Pai on the first Chiang Rai bus in the morning if you want to be confident of getting there and back the same day.

Thanks. Mae Sai is the Thai side and Tachileik is in Myanmar.

Wikitravel reports that as of 2 years ago, non-Thai day visitors to Tachileik from Mae Sai did not receive Myanmar stamps in their passports. (Has this changed?) In this case, then, there is probably no exit stamp from Thailand. Will they stamp me out if I ask?? The whole purpose of the trip is to exit Thailand and then promptly return in order to start the second part of the double entry tourist visa.

Has anybody had experience with this crossing?

Normal procedure at the Mae Sai border is to be stamped out of Thailand, then being stamped in Myanmar after paying $10 or 500 baht for a border pass and then returning to Thailand.

The VIP pass as some people call them are no longer done on a regular basis.
