NRSA politics body chairman agrees with most of draft charter

Bangkok, 1 February 2016 (NNT) – The head of the National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA)’s political commission has voiced approval for most parts of the draft charter and has prepared to debate aspects he does not agree with.

NRSA Commission on Politics Chairman, Seri Suwanpanont, has scheduled an initial review of the draft charter before holding a session to write up recommendations for the Constitution Drafting Commission so that it may further adjust the document.

Seri let on he agrees with the draft’s mechanisms for combating corruption and election fraud, the decision to empower the Constitution Court to resolve political crises and its stipulations on the origins of a prime minister. The portion he will contest includes the draft’s bias towards listed senators rather than constituency senators.

Nonetheless, the chairman voiced confidence the CDC draft was derived without influence or pressure from the current government. He also gave assurance that the body will consider the opinions of all sides and use them to create a suitable constitution.

On whether the draft will pass public referendum, Seri said he could not comment on the outcome until the completed document is made public.

Well, other than the Charter Drafting Committee being appointed by the Junta. There is that bit. But let us not quibble over details.

Right-o, but it is a game that they play anyway... Who is fooled besides a few fools here?

you have this one:

Last 11 CDC members appointed by NCPO and Cabinet

followed a few days later by

CDC an independent body, insists Meechai

He made the comment in order to clarify any possible doubts aroused by the NCPO's 10 leaked suggestions on the charter draft.

Meechai and his fellow turd-rollers were put in place to roll the turd the junta asked for... That is the turd we're getting.

The NRC rejected the first draft as being unacceptable to the public.

Meechai's second draft is even more radical with greater anti-democratic constraints on an elected government. More politicians and academics have openly criticized Meechai's draft, cumulating in a recent Suan Dusit Poll that indicates that over 60 percent of respondents are not sure that the of Meechai's draft constitution will be accepted in a referendum. But the NRSA agrees with most of Meechai's draft.

Looks like the NCPO got the membership corrected with the NRSA. Apparently a worse draft means a more acceptable draft - at least to the NCPO. Maybe we'll see Plan B before any referendum.
