MOPH to increase collaboration between hospitals and medical schools

BANGKOK, 2 February 2016 (NNT) - The Ministry of Public Health has pushed for greater collaboration between public hospitals and medical schools in order to provide more effective medical coverage to the public.

Public Health Minister Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn visited Thammasat University Hospital to determine the guidelines for collaboration between medical schools and hospitals under the ministry's jurisdiction.

Thammasat Hospital is one of the most modern and well-equipped medical schools in the ASEAN Community, with a focus on oncology and its university housing the country’s most modern particle accelerator.

Dr. Piyasakol said that in the next three months, he will sign a memorandum of cooperation on patient referrals between hospitals and medical schools, while the ministry will move ahead in strengthening the country’s healthcare and illness-resilience systems.

All the fancy equipment in the world is useless unless the graduating doctors do not know how to diagnose (requires an ability to think) and are not taught how to read the results of said "fancy equipment". It is high time for Thailand universities to dump the patronage system and focus on skills. In other words, switch from "who you know" to "what you know" being most important. coffee1.gif And please, get rid of the stupid "no fail" policy. crazy.gif

A novel idea!
