PHUKET: -- Police are trying to identify a foreign male who died at Vachira Phuket Hospital yesterday morning.

The man, estimated to be about 50 years old, was not carrying any identification when, according to witnesses, he collapsed and hit his head on the sidewalk along Patong’s famed Soi Bangla Saturday night.

He was taken to Patong Hospital and later transferred to the better equipped Vachira Phuket Hospital where he remained in the Intensive Care Unit until his death.

Don't worry TV's CSI squad will already be on the case.

There does seem to be quite an increase but not totally sure without having reliable statistics (now there is a conundrum).

It does seem that Phuket and Pattaya have more than their share of deaths and disasters. However both have english language local newspapers so they are always going to get more coverage than places that don't. Add to that the amount of drugs, booze, bizarre behaviour, local mafia, pimps and foreign criminals and you have a wonderful mixture of depravity and anything goes fun!

The man died after collapsing on Bagla Rd on Saturday (Feb 6).

PHUKET: -- Police and Vachira Hospital are asking for help in trying to identify a foreign man who died in the hospital’s ICU last night (Feb 8) after he collapsed and hit his head on the path on Bangla Rd on Saturday (Feb 6).

Police have issued an image of the deceased in the hope he will be identified.

Kathu Police Capt Yingyong Chuoykij told The Phuket News today (Feb 9) that the incident happened at the end of Bangla Rd where there are no CCTVs. However, he did confirm that officers who were stationed close to the area at the time went to help the man and called an ambulance.

Meanwhile, Maj Nucharee Longkaew from Phuket City Police said, “The man had a big wound to the back of his head, but he had no identification on him. Rescue workers said witnesses told them that the victim fell on the road and hit his head at around 11pm.

“The man was taken to hospital because his head was injured and he was bleeding from his ear. There were no signs of assault or other injuries on the body .”

Would it be too much to ask of police they view some CCTV footage of the incident, to remove all doubt?

Why should I be called a member of the "TV CSI squad" for suggesting this when it's the duty of police to do so?

Of course, Phuket only attracts the best of the best of Thai police - right?

Been there done that, walked away. Then was hacked from BKK for 6 months there after - smedly you are so right and until it fully happens to you; you wouldn't be aware, the hotel, the clothes washing, the restaurants, the bars, the massage ladies are all Thai and know who runs these sleazy places. Police/mafia are the same thing, move all the drugs + press the yaba, very sad for the whole country shows just how incestuous the industry really is. Just easier not to be touched, holiday elsewhere.beatdeadhorse.gif

Another geographically challenged poster.

Many of those incidents happened in other provinces. Are you aware the Phi Phi Islands are in Krabi province?

And road traffic accidents happen all over Thailand!! In fact, most of the major (multiple loss of life) bus accidents happen on high speed highways in remote provinces. There's no open country highways on Phuket where buses and vans reach idiot speeds for long periods. (Granted a few occasionally lose it on steep hills, but they rarely kill more than one or two at a time) Most road deaths here are the fools on motorbikes exacerbated by the lack of a public transport system.

Phuket is a major tourist destination with millions of arrivals annually. Tourists get drunk, experiment with girls, drugs (Viagra) and the law of averages decrees some will cark it now and then. There are a lot less balcony divers here than in some other areas!

Also, I would bet my GF's house on the fact there are more swimmers, divers, boat tours and ferries in Phuket and Krabi waters every day than anywhere else in Thailand, so there will be more incidents on the water.

Granted the Chinese (or as I call them, lemmings) do drown at a fairly high rate. I blame that more on their culture than the location.

"In fact, most of the major (multiple loss of life) bus accidents happen on high speed highways in remote provinces." - this may be true, but the fact that Phuket Province has THE HIGHEST road fatality rate of all the provinces in Thailand, really says something about how dangerous the roads are here.

Yes, bus accidents with multiple fatalities occur more up north, but how bad is it when several single fatality accidents on Phuket exceed the number of dead from big multiple fatality accident in provinces up north?
