About 200 garment workers, who were fired from their jobs earlier this week began their second day of protest outside the Xin Shi Da Garment factory after the company failed to pay their January salaries on Wednesday, claiming that they do not pay fired former workers, according to a worker representative. The Veng Street factory has now promised to pay the 200 their full salaries for January at the end of February, worrying workers – who are unsure of how they will pay their rent, expenses and health care costs – as well as rights advocates.

Math Sivath, a worker and representative, said she doesn’t clearly know why the workers were fired. “When I asked the factory representative about my salary, he promised it on Wednesday, but other factory representatives said they wouldn’t pay workers who were fired,” she said.
