Victims in 2013-14 political violence to be compensated

BANGKOK: -- The Social Development and Human Security Ministry is set to compensate families of those killed, and people injured during the political violence in 2013-2014.

Deputy director-general of the ministry’s Department of Social Development and Welfare Mrs Kwanwong Pikulthong said a total of 868 people were affected by the political violence, breaking down to 28 killed and 840 injured.

She said for those who died, their families would receive 400,000 baht in compensation, 200,000 baht for those who were disabled, 100,000 baht for those critically injured, 60,000 baht for those injured, and 20,000 baht for slight injuries.

Those who were affected are required to register for compensation from February 17 h March 17 at the Department of Social Development and Welfare in Bangkok, and its offices in all provinces.

She said authorities will thoroughly check the documents of all applicants if they meet the official requirements, and will submit their names to the Bureau of Budget for budget approval.

First payment of the compensation is expected to be made end of April this year she added.

The political violence broke out during the anti government protest held by the defunct People’s Democratic Reform Committee under the leadership of former secretary-general of the Democrat Party Suthep Thaugsuban against the government of former prime minister Ms Yingluck Shinawatra.

Suthep pressured for the ouster of Ms Yingluck by stepping up the anti government protest to “Bangkok Shutdown” in January 2014.

The PTP government gave much more than that but it was only government money and not theirs anyway.

No one has every acknowledged the Thai to be consentent in actions nor thought on a subject. Wake up in a new world every day seems more fitting.

Did the NACC ever formally file the charges so as they are on record ?

An off topic post in violation of fair use policy has been removed as well as a reply.

And your point is?

Your post's relevance to the OP is?

Are you claiming that the junta is cheap?

Or that they don't value human life as much?

Or, do you just enjoy posting nonsense blathering against the PTP even when it has nothing to do with the thread?

jeez...

All of the sums are very small in my opinion. But Critically injured at 100,000 baht is a travesty. The price of life here is so cheap. What a shame.

Any chance of suthep doing time for his crimes?

Firstly my post has everything to do with the thread as it was about compensation.

Secondly the PTP did pay more in compensation then this government unless of course you can prove me wrong. I think it was somewhere around 6,000,000 baht each.

Thirdly anyone is allowed to post on any thread should they wish to do so and stay within the rules.

If you don't like the posts that I make then put me on your ignore list or if you wish to do so formally report me to the moderators. I will listen and abide by their decision. You I don't care about.

Yet you passionately defend the PTP and whitewash them in most of your posts but that is OK by you.

If anyone posts anything different you want to throw your toys out of the pram.

Will they be able to recover this money from the those who funded the thugs responsible?

If the PTP did not pay their hired thugs a lot for their protesting and risks they would never help them again. That is why they paid a lot. These people who in 2013-2014 rose up were not paid for so require less compensation and will rise up again even if underpaid.

Quite a simple explanation.

Even the the generals of old knew.. if you not pay your mercenaries enough they might turn on you. The PTP knows they might need them again so they pay them a lot.

A govt that gets no protection from the military, indeed has them hovering above them like the sword of Damicles (?) you couldn't blame for taking counter-measures.

The PAD however doesn't have this difficulty. Their problem is getting into power in the first place. The fair and proper way. Via the polling booth.

Will they give anything to all the businesses that went belly up during Pra S's reign of terror?

Fat frigging criminal long before he shut down the city.

Americans don't have prams and it is you who are throwing around your toys.

No, your post had nothing to do with THIS topic. It was just a stupid and cheap jab at the PTP which I never defend, not like they need it any way. I do however find irrelevant BS about your perceived value of human life offensive...

people who claim the red shirts are paid to protest and the yellow shirts are not, doesn't know anything about or understand this conflict at all...

Personally, I am surprised this did not happen a lot sooner.

The compensation is pathetic, however...

What a feeble attempt to justify PTP's private militia and not to forget the police, who they also handsomely rewarded.

just like those who still claim the black shirts didn't and don't exist.

People should get compensation for having to view the OP.

Right and this compensation isn't coming from government coffers ?

Let us get one thing straight here, PTP had an undisputed electoral mandate. The people now running the show do not.

just like those who still claim the black shirts didn't and don't exist.

There are many who believe the black shirts existed - or at least an armed element in the redshirt encampment- but remain perplexed that they have never been apprehended or interrogated even by regimes that have everything to gain by doing so - particularly in terms of recruitment and financing.

Occasionally there is some announcement that blackshirts have been caught but never any follow up.

Yes, i remember on here when we were always hearing about these highly armed and trained Ronin warriors under General Kattiya, who managed to kill ummm exactly how many army? None?

Then last year they arrested these highly trained Ronin warriors, the average age was about 20, and one of them was a 23 year old lady if my memory serves! Talk about moving goal posts, factual increduality, now as Jayboy says, where are the arrest of these heavily armed, trained and financed warriors? presumably ex military.
