NNT News

CALIFORNIA, 16 February 2015 (NNT) – The Prime Ministers of Thailand and Vietnam held a bilateral discussion to push forward trade and investment to enhance both nations' agricultural produce value, and extended cooperation in the fisheries industry to eliminate human trafficking.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha today joined a bilateral discussion with the Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, on the second day of the special US-ASEAN Summit held in California, the United States.

The Thai Prime Minister agreed to the proposal of enhancing trade and investment, as well as increasing the value of agricultural produce to reach 20 billion US dollars by the year 2020.

He has also agreed with the cooperation in fisheries to prevent illegal actions through a preventative approach from the origin country with the establishment of communication channels between the two countries. This latest action cements Thailand’s priority in solving the Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing issues.

On this occasion, the Vietnamese leader has thanked Thailand for its assistance on the registration of Vietnamese workers, and the extension period to occupations that Vietnamese nationals are allowed to be employed in Thailand, while cooperation will strengthen both countries' negotiation power with bigger countries.
