PM returns from US-ASEAN Summit

CALIFORNIA, 17 February 2016 (NNT) – The President of the United States has declared before the leaders of ASEAN that the US will continue to encourage Thailand to return to a fully civilian government.

The declaration took place at the first ever US-ASEAN summit concluding today in California of the United States and followed Prime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha affirming to the gathering that his government would allow for general elections in the Kingdom as soon as it completes a new constitution. While acknowledging the process has been delayed, he estimated that elections could take place as soon as 2017.

The prime minister has taken part in signing the Sunnyland Principle, which concluded the US-ASEAN leaders’ summit and outlines intent among the signatories to engage in economic and security cooperation.

One security issue brought up during the two day meeting was tensions in the South China Sea, which involve several ASEAN countries. US President Barack Obama stated that despite China constructing islands in the maritime territory and moving in military forces, he wants any tensions to be resolved through peaceful and legal means.

Topics of discussion that Gen Prayuth took part in on the final day of the summit included terrorism, climate change, public health and human trafficking.

At all the talks, the Thai premier affirmed that Thailand is ready to provide full assistance to the US and ASEAN to deal with the transnational matters.

He especially assured that Thailand will work both with the international community and internally to address the problem of human trafficking with a focus on aiding women and children.

The prime minister has left California and is scheduled to arrive back in Thailand tomorrow afternoon.

The trouble for Thailand is pressure from the USA on getting the free elections happening sooner rather than later , but the USA has its own problems with China and its aggression in the south China sea, and what compounds the PM's problems are

Cambodia being an ally of China as well as Laos to a smaller degree,

more distractions and diplomacy for the PM moving forward, I would not want to walk the tight rope he is on.

He can leave along with his autocratic thugs anytime he chooses.

The guy is so far out of his depth, it's pathetic.

Moving backward is more accurate. wai2.gif

Obama has had his say so let's wait for the statement from the Thai Foreign Ministry that the PM was a raging success and that all the other delegates understands the road map and are fully supportive of everything being done.

The flight going to the States and back again was longer then the actual visit.

he was able to explain the correct situation in Thailand and now they all "understand". Not like those "distorted" views the world leaders might get from the international press....

...to provide full assistance to the US

that is Obama was looking for.

Come on Uncle, post your selfies with Obama........ Show your status as a world leader!!

Does the President suggest that like PM Prayut, all in his cabinet and in the NLA should relinquish their military position to make all of them 'mere' civilians?
