NBTC opens seminar on cyber security measures

BANGKOK, 18 February 2016 (NNT) – The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has confirmed the efficiency of current measures against cybercrime in Thailand.

A seminar was organized by the NBTC in cooperation with the Royal Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel, with an aim to share knowledge and opinions on ways to foster cyber security. Attendants included operators of digital and satellite television channels and telecommunications specialists from Israel.

NBTC Commissioner Thawatchai Jittrapanun pointed out that the internet is nowadays part of people’s everyday life due to its ever-increasing accessibility. Nonetheless, it has brought about various forms of cyber threats, especially data theft and hacking which have caused tremendous damage to all sectors in the country.

As cyber attacks could also occur in radio and television broadcasting and, in turn, affect national security, Mr Thawatchai said the government has been placing an emphasis on the problem, with a national strategy having been developed and implemented to prevent such online threats. The NBTC has also issued additional rules and regulations, which have been effective in ensuring cyber security.

About the only emphasis I've seen the govt place on the cyber security problem is trying to implement a "single gateway" controlled by the govt....and that's not cyber security; that's really free speech monitoring and suppression.

"where we go now?"

"we go Tel Aviv to watch television."

"where that?"

"i think USA."

"you think they have snow? i always wanted to see snow."

"Hello, welcome to the meeting. I am NBTC Commissioner Thawatchai Jittrapanun from Thailand. Last week I determined that the internet is part of people’s everyday lives and is subject to various forms of cyber threats, especially data theft and hacking. As I am sure Israeli computer scientists are completely unaware of this, I will give to you few moments to consider this new information before you respond."
