BANGKOK: Fishing operators are now told to prepare themselves for applications for fishing licences or they will not be able to fish in the country’s territorial water in the upcoming fishing season.

The notice was given by the Fisheries Department so that they will prepare themselves to meet the international standards

Director-general Wimol Jantrarotai of the Fisheries Department said commercial fishing operators who wish to do their business in these years have to apply for a licence between March 1 and March 15.

An operator who has no fishing license will not be permitted to fish in the country’s territorial water in the upcoming fishing season, which starts on April 1, he said.

According to the department, application can be made at the department, the Fisheries Office in Bangkok, concerned district administrative office and the fisheries centres in coastal provinces.

Applicants’ information will be registered in the e-license system and they will be completely examined before March 18.

The department will announce application results within March 27.

He said the fishing licence will be valid for 2 years.

prepare themselves for applications for fishing licences

or

the government will compensate them for not being able to fish.

Prayut might need to go to the NLA for a bit more cash but hasn't been a problem.

The issuing of licences places some control over the fleet in regards of fish numbers caught the control of these numbers and the fishing regulations, however I am suspect of licence applications without checks and balances, the opportunity arises of corruption in the issue of licences of sub standard boats and crew labour being held in substandard conditions and wages, the Thai fishing industry hasn't been entirely honest in the past , so why should they be now, just because of a licence................................coffee1.gif

Of course there will be an above table cost and below table cost to ensure you get a license. tongue.png

Cheating is in there genes! No role models.

Is this an old story, repeated story? an ongoing story?

The never ending story!

Is this similar to "you can't operate a motorized vehicle on Thai roads" without a licence?

Most of us X pats know how much the typical Thai adheres to laws/regulations or rule of law. So no worries....

Good move, except no mention of penalties for administration officials who make unofficial exceptions to certain applications.
