Thai princess arrives in Cambodia for visit to boost ties

PHNOM PENH, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn arrived here on Monday morning for a 3-day visit to boost relations in education and health between the two neighbouring countries.

The princess was greeted by Cambodian Education Minister Hang Chuon Naron and other dignitaries upon her arrival at the Phnom Penh international airport.

According to the official schedule, Sirindhorn will meet with Prime Minister Hun Sen at the Peace Palace before attending several ceremonies, including the inauguration of a health centre in northeastern Rattanakiri province, the hand-over ceremony of the solar cell building at the Kampong Chheuteal Institute of Technology in central Kampong Thom province, and the groundbreaking ceremony for the Kampong Speu Institute of Technology in western Kampong Speu province.

She is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on King Norodom Sihamoni on Tuesday.

Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn applauded Cambodian students for their smarts yesterday morning in a Peace Palace meeting with Prime Minister Hun Sen, according to one of the prime minister’s attachés.

Kao Kim Hourn spoke to the media after the meeting, saying that the princess would fly to Rattanakiri province by helicopter for the opening ceremony of the Sameakki Health Center on Monday at noon.

“Princess Sirindhorn is strongly satisfied with Cambodian students and said that they study hard, are smart and outstanding,” Mr. Kim Hourn said. “She admires our students and loves them.”
