February 24, 201610 yr Hi, I am new to being a member/posting on this site but have been reading it since I have been in Thailand. I need some advice and cannot seem to find it. If anyone can lead me to it and this post is unnecessary certainly delete it. My friend and I have been traveling around Thailand for quite some time, I am from America on a Multi-entry Non-B (originally thought I would come over to teach). She is from Canada, and here on a 30 day visa exempt stamp (and 30 days of extension after that ran up) after we visited Langkawi, Malaysia for a weekend. Her 30 days + extension is about to run out but her flight back to Canada is not until March 18th, her stamp runs out on the 1st. What is her best option? Can she go to immigration and apply for an additional extension now that she has her flight booked? Is it possible to go to Kanchanaburi for the weekend and bounce across the Phu Nam Ron border and get another visa exempt stamp? Or any other less populated border crossing? (we are trying to stay away from Poipet as we've heard it is incredibly busy on the weekends and we would rather spend the time exploring the area we do the border crossing at than standing in queues). I would love to know if anyone has recently been to the Kanchanaburi/Phu Nam Ron crossing and if they knew about visa exempt stamps there. Again, she has proof of flight from Thailand, she just needs two and a half extra weeks. I have personally done the Kanchanaburi/ Phu Nam Ron crossing and really enjoyed it, it was just quite a few months ago and I did not ask about Visa Exempt Stamps. If you have any other border crossings in mind that are easy to access from Bangkok and could be done in a weekend (we have an additional friend flying in late Sunday night/early Monday to join us on our travels) please let me know. Thank you everyone for the plethora of advice offered on these forums, they are life savers!
February 24, 201610 yr Your friend cannot get a visa exempt entry at the Kanchanaburi crossing and can only extend each entry once. There are companies that will do visa runs from Bangkok to the Cambodia border and back in a day. Edited February 24, 201610 yr by elviajero
February 24, 201610 yr The crossing at Ban Phu Nam Ron does not allow a crossing for a out/in visa exempt entry. You must have a valid visa to do the crossing. There are other crossings to Cambodia than Poi Pet. The Ban Laem crossing would be a good choice.
