Reform body building mechanism to ensure fair elections

BANGKOK, 28 February 2016 (NNT) – The National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA) says it is creating a mechanism that will ensure fair and corruption-free elections.

According to spokesperson of the national reform body Kamnoon Sidhisamarn, the committee had already submitted to the Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) its suggestions on the chapter pertaining to politics, expressing hope that the drafting team would heed the suggestions and make appropriate changes to the draft charter.

He said the NRSA was working to the best of its ability in creating a mechanism that will prevent electoral fraud as well as ensure fairness in the upcoming general elections.

As for its long term plan, Mr Kamnoon said Thailand must foster a constructive political culture in the society, adding that people of all ages should be educated and knowledgeable about good politics.

What exact mechanisms? To ensure Shins never get majority of votes? Or ensure Military can again intervene in politics whenever it suits them?

the propaganda is strong in this one....

yes, and yes....

this is all smoke & mirrors. Thailand had free elections with results that represented the will of the people. And these are the people who lost.

"building mechanism to ensure unfair elections" there that's better

From what I understand its to make sure no party gets the majority of votes and they parachute some guy from outside to be PM. From what I understand the rules are really tough and if there is any perceived fraud or misdoings the parties can be tried in a court of "justice" and jailed if found guilty. This should pretty well scare away any good candidates. They can see the handwriting on the wall. Past coups and constitutions have taught the elite a lesson make this one ironclad. Trial and error over the years may yet pay off for them. Its similar to a football coach watching the movies of past games to see where his team made errors. All this will come gift wrapped and called "Bringing happiness to the people part 2"

A classic illusion--distract the audience with one hand: "Look everybody, fair elections!", to keep them from looking at the hand holding a constitution that makes the elections meaningless.

how completely and sadly true.

If actually done ( which it will not ) , this would be sad news

for Issan villagers who received vote buying money every

election.

".....the best of its ability in creating a mechanism that will prevent electoral fraud as well as ensure fairness in the upcoming general elections" interesting phrase dont you think

building mechanisms to make it go the way they want, more like....

I have some news for you. It's not only in Issan vote buying takes place, it's all over the country.

Correct. It is just more obvious there. Over the years

have talked to many girls who said they were headed

back to Issan to see their families, as well as collect

their voting money.. Vote buying is NOT some kind

of urban myth !! Of course I guess with the present

form of government, vote buying is no longer an

issue ... cheesy.gif

listen up! there is no one looking over the shoulders of people voting and vote buying has been over estimated and used as an excuse for the elites who never win elections. I have never, ever met a Thai who tells me they have been forced or bribed to vote one way or the other. money has traditionally been given at election time all over the country (especially the South) but it has NO impact on election results as has been admitted by PTP and Dems

"Correct. It is just more obvious there. "

It is? My wife is not from Issan but where she comes from the vote buying in all local, provincial and national elections is blatantly obvious. In fact, it could only be more obvious if the candidates put up banners proclaiming how much they were willing to pay for a vote.

Building mechanism to ensure fair elections.

Please Sir what's an election

Need a mechanism to prevent future coups, if and when the current state returns to Citizen rule.

Thats wright each side only gets x amount of brown paper bags

There will never be fair elections in Thailand as long as the voter are getting paid to vote for the paying cannidate. Nothing will never change in Thailand .
