I've just received some documents in Thai from a colleague together with the information that I'll have to attend a seminar in Korat next month for three days.

My colleague told me that it would be a preparation seminar for the TL, but she wasn't really sure about it. There's a letter from our educational office, one from Khurusapha and one- I can only assume- from the institution where the seminar will take place.

The seminar will be held at the Faculty of Liberal Arts at Phanowan College of Technology in Nakhon Ratchasima from 18.3. to 20. 3. 2016.

I've just signed up for an accredited online degree course from the Philippines and already paid my registration fee.

My Filipino colleague will also have to join in and we have to pay 4,500 baht for the 3 day seminar.

Our coordinator is at a one month educational seminar in Chonburi, so no way to ask her anything as she hasn't even seen the documents.

Any useful information would be deeply appreciated. Thanks a lot in advance. wai2.gif

Do you already have a 5 year TL? A colleague was supposed to attend the same seminar, but changed his mind because of the costs. He's got a five year TL, which is due for renewal at the end of the year.

Nope, I don't have a five year permit. When I check on Khurusapha's website, I'm still on my first arrangement after 11 years.

Your colleague changed his mind because of 4.5 K? Okay, plus hotel and amusement without wife can get expensive these days.

Considering that the educational area where your friend's school belongs to is also involved, could cause problems when he wants to renew his license at the end of the year.

Have you ever thought about that this "invitation" might be a part of your friend's "educational progress", or whatever they want to name the baby?

I've seen the signature of an Admiral on one of the docs and I'm sure that they know what they're doing. Well, maybe not really.

Sounds like it. BTW I hope your colleague has at least 200 hours' of continuing personal development under his belt. This was recently increased from 100 & might indeed be what this letter pertains to...

I was given the same documents, which were also in English from my head of English department. And passed them onto my wife, who is an assistant director. She made a phone call to the organiser (name and number on document) to find out more details.

Our understanding of it. Is that it is a seminar for Foreign Teachers who have not got or done the Thai Language, Culture and professional ethics course. You do not get a teachers licence at the end of the seminar, but a certificate for passing the Thai Language, Culture and professional ethics course.

This is our understanding of it. Hope it helps

Thanks a lot for your great post. If that's true, I'm more than happy because I've got my Thai language and professional ethics course already.

It was conducted by the Private Teacher's Association back in 2008 and I know from Khrususapha that it's "accredited."

Your post really helped me a lot and thanks again, plus a big Khop Khun Khrap to your wife. wai2.gif

Ridiculous that teachers should have to pay to go to this seminar. The ministry should pay for it.

If not the Ministry, then the school, IMHO.

They just recently paid for all expenses for seven foreign teachers at my former school, including a van and hotel.

Such things also show how welcome foreign teachers really are.

I've got two of these "certificates" now. The one that was organised by an agency and fully paid for, including a great hotel in Kanchanaburi, okay food, isn't "accredited" by TCT. What a waste of money.....100 baht for each hangover and I could buy a new car.

Fortunately, the other one is okay and it seems that I'm not going to Korat. thumbsup.gif

I heard that the TCC courses before 2010 are not valid anymore for TL application after 2015.

Thanks a lot for pointing this out. I will hear if mine from 2008 has "expired" within the next two, or three days and post it here.

Is it only for the TL application, or also for the provisional ones?

That sounds like the " being grandfathered rule" for all who started 6 months before I did. Freaking insane.

On the other hand, I'll receive my letter from the university soon that I'm updating my degree, which should be enough for the TCT?

The problem I've got is that the rules and regulations are always changing.

When I saw the signature of an Army Admiral,on one of the docs, it explains all.

Oh dear! Since when did the Army have Admirals?

One of the Fillipenas in our office (doing the diploma at St Joseph's), has told us that people with degrees from there are being turned down for TLs.

Haven't heard that Saint Joseph was organizing a graduate diploma in teaching/ education course.

Do you have more information on this course?

I heard about the

  • IFUGAO
  • St. Theresa
  • UniTEFL
  • PGCEi

It'll have to wait until Monday, but I will ask. There are 3 in my office doing it. 2 fFllipenas and a Chinese guy

Sorry I just realised this is St Roberts, not St Joseph's and runs through Ifugao State University. Like I said (and this is second hand, but by somebody studying there) the ministry turned a degree down, though the diploma seems to be working

Thanks for the clarification.
