Nok Air’s pilots’ flight time record does not match CAAT’s record

BANGKOK: -- Nok Air’s pilots’ flight time record does not match with that of the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand and its pilots’ flight time is a bit in excess of the permissible limit, said Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisit said Tuesday.

Citing findings of CAAT’s probe team, he explained that Nok Air kept the record of pilots’ flight time on monthly basis whereas CAAT kept the record on weekly, monthly and yearly bases. Hence, he said that further probe by CAAT of Nok Air’s record of pilots’ flight time was necessary and he expected result in April.

The probe was ordered after some Nok Air’s pilots walked off on February 14 over a conflict with the management, leaving about 3,000 domestic passengers stranded at Don Meuang airport.

Mr Arkhom disclosed that Nok Air had already compensated 90 percent of the stranded passengers and transferred the others to their allied airlines to take care of them.

Nok Air’s reliance on allied airlines to help fly its passengers is expected to end within March 10 after which the airline expects to assume normal operations.

The airline has recently recruited about 10 foreign pilots and in the process of recruiting more pilots to solve its problem of personnel shortage.

Wow.

This reminds me of my Thai teenage son.

He gets angry at me because I caught him lying.

I hope that pilot that got fired suss the crap out of Nok when the findings show the flight times exceeded standards for pilots.

I would like to know what country the pilots are being hired from? I hope it's not India, I think I will avoid Nok now!

Unsettling. But isn't his reaction part of "Thainess"?

Excess flying time was the issue with 1-2-Go and Orient Thai and a direct contributor to the Phuket Crash. The UK coroner used extremely strong language to characterize the level of deceit perpetrated by the owners of that company but, being 'connected' they got nothing more than a slap on the wrist.

If Nok can't stick to the limits they should be closed down but their response so far has been to vilify whistle-blowing pilots.

I flew with Nok over the w/e and was in a Vietjetair plane with crew. So I guess from Vietnam - very good plane and the crew spoke better Eng and were less arrogant than normal Thai airline staff. I wouldn't hesitate in future to use this airline.

...this says a lot about what is 'official' here.......

...can you say 'free-for-all'.....???

....'fiasco'....???

....'travesty'....???

a bit in excess of the permissible limit

largely in excess of the permissable limit

Thai airlines only employ Thais. As opposed to Emirates - I was on a flight this week when they announced they had staff from 20 countries on board speaking 20 languages.

I usually fly Etihad UK -Bkk and there the same. Multi countries and languages...always good cabin crew I've had... And yes always they all speak English no matter where there from...Got a phone and address from a Japanese trolley dolly and she was a babe!! I worry about Nok as indeed all the local airlines for sure as I don't trust the standards in place to be followed.

I would avoid sitting and talking to someone with such narrow-minded and warped views of people.. Unfortunately, bigots don't usually wear signs proclaiming their status.

Was traveling through Don Muang a week ago and noticed 3 cancelled Nok Air flights... glad I went with Air Asia!

The plot thickens. Pilots being scheduled to work beyond the legal limits and the company

cover up. whistling.gif

Exceeding the permitted hours is a bit naughty isn't it?

Over to the aviation experts...

First step - remove the first two layers of management (CEO and next level) and scrutinize middle management for folks who contribute nothing of value and drop them also.
