Thailand Wants Missile System for New Patrol Vessel

Submarines, patrol boats, missile system. and yet the country is parched of water with many areas

facing critical water shortage, does the government invest in water resources managements?

No, the above toys are much more important for the generals to show around.....

a government will look at many different things at once. The Army under government orders has been digging ponds and boreholes all over Thailand in the past year. Obviously there needs to be an official statement concerning Songkhran excesses.

there was a statement issued last month! the "dear" leader WILL allow songkhran! was in thai visa.

You forget to mention the Aircraft carrier what are they waiting for, for friend America selling jump jets that are close to being out of flight time? Like they sold the nearly out of flight time engines to replace the ones that came with the ship from Spain and were practically teetering on the edge of out of flight time? With friends like that who needs enemies?

Not a problem, they are ordering the missile system. Actually ordering the missiles will be a different kickback contract after the vessel gets delivered and they realise something is missing.

Apart from Thailand, the vessel has also attracted interest in Britain and also in Brazil which took delivery of three OPVs from 2013 to 2014.

With three of these ships already in service in Brazil and a further three Offshore Patrol Vessels under construction for the UK Royal Navy, our design continues to attract significant interest internationally, Nigel Stewart, the commercial director for BAE Systems Naval Ships business said.

The HTMS Krabi

Do you have to pass a test to drive one of these or do they stick an advert in the local market like they do for the bus drivers?

'Thailand ... requires at least five of them, which can be used for routine patrols, border control, disaster relief and the protection of natural resources in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea.' All or any of which could demand need of the firing of a missile, I suppose.

You do realise the U.K's approach to corruption is a damn sight more vigorous than Thailand's, do you? Caught, and a business could face severe penalties.

vessel to be equipped with the Harpoon surface-to-surface guided weapon system

What for? To protect their precious aircraft carrier, or to get rid of the last bunch of sea gypsies?

Their wish list: Submarines from China, Tanks from Russia and fighter jets from Sweden. What are these guys preparing for? I wouldn’t be surprised if the next shopping trip goes to North Korea to negotiate about some nukes.

Don't worry it's not that they will actually use these weapons- the secret is in the purchase.

God save us! Send in a gunboat Royal Navy please!

I don't think they have any available. They are getting rid of many of their LGBs (Large Grey Boats), in the hope that they will then get some new submarines.....

Well the blimp was no help with their piracy operations, perhaps with new ships the RTN will get better at piracy? After all they have lost the No1 spot to the Somalies!! clap2.gifclap2.gifbiggrin.pngwai.gif
