More Chinese investors showing interest in Thai infrastructural projects

BANGKOK, 2 March 2016 (NNT)-Finance Minister Apisak Tantivorawong has revealed that more Chinese businessmen are showing interest to invest in Thailand.

Mr. Apirak’s comment came after his visit to Beijing from January 29th to 30th to discuss investment opportunities and incentives in Thailand with Chinese investors. His visit was in line with the Thai government’s policy to promote 2016 as the year of investment. He added that Chinese investors expressed interest in the 10 major industries that the Thai government wanted to promote.

Apart from individual investors, ‘China Investment Corporation’, which has a total asset of 740 billion US dollars worldwide, has also shown interest in investing in the construction of basic infrastructure in Thailand for a long term capital gain.

The Finance Minister said the expansion of Chinese investments in Thailand will be beneficial to the economy and help promote the country as a hub of investment in ASEAN.

Thailand will become just like Laos, Chinese owned.

investing in the construction of basic infrastructure in Thailand for a long term capital gain.

This is an odd statement from an economic perspective.

Capital gain comes from appreciation in the value of a commodity realized through a sale. Basic infrastruture is mostly an engineered tangible, depreciating asset. Conversely, it does not appreciate in value over time. It would be unlikely that an infrastructure project could be liquidated in the future after years of operation at a profit, especially given Thailand's negative inflation rate.

OMG not another hub, how many hubs would that make Thailand have then ?

In other words, there were no commitments.

sure, they know where to make money.... And Thailand has lacks of infrastructure...(public transport, as railsway, buses, taxis, mono rails, and city planning..)

seems many Thai pockets and envelopes are empty again !

Better no infrastructure than any single Chinese to see in LOS !!

Firts they should learn how to use a toilett,

than thye should evelop infra accordingly !!

Thailand is not a spitting littering country !!
