Trump warns data centre rebels could end up ‘poor’

Donald Trump has lashed out at communities across the US resisting new data centres, warning they could become “backwards and poor” if they block one of his administration’s key economic priorities.

The president renewed his push for rapid data-centre construction on Monday, arguing the projects would bring jobs, investment and lower taxes despite growing public opposition.

Trump turns up the heat on opponents

Trump said communities should only reject data centres if they were prepared to accept economic decline. He argued that areas embracing the projects could become “successful and rich”, with jobs “all over the place”.

He also warned that there were plenty of other communities willing to host the facilities. “If we kill the Golden Goose, you will only have yourselves to blame,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The White House is pushing ahead

Trump signed an executive order in July 2025 designed to accelerate federal permitting for data-centre infrastructure. Construction has since surged, with data-centre projects starting across the country at a rapid pace.

The expansion is being driven by soaring demand for computing infrastructure, including the technology required to power artificial intelligence.

But the administration’s aggressive push is increasingly colliding with resistance at local level.

Three quarters oppose a local data centre

A recent Embold Research poll cited by Heatmap found that 75 per cent of Americans opposed a new data centre being built in their own community.

Concerns surrounding projects have included their demands for electricity, water and land, as well as their impact on local infrastructure and the environment.

Trump nevertheless framed the backlash as a strategic threat, claiming China would welcome what he called the “anti Data Center movement”.

His message was blunt: communities can either embrace the data-centre boom or risk watching investment move elsewhere.

Hey Trump. if the masses complain, here's a suggestion or three:

-Build a data center next to Mar-a-Lago?

-Or instead of a WH ballroom, how about a data center where the East Wing used to be?

-How about on the 9th fairway at Bedminster?

I'd hate to think you're one of those NIMBY types.

So they will end up ....poorer

but happy ....!

Hmm. Backwards and poor, or no, or poisoned water and little or expensive electricity? What a choice for someone living in what is supposed to be the world's greatest economy.

Oh and by the way. AI has taken your job.

You have any real arguments?

I believe Trump’s right. If towns block data centers the money and jobs just go somewhere else.

Look at Bangkok. They’re building a ton of them right now on a grid that’s still mostly gas and coal not some pure green fantasy. Nobody’s out there calling it evil or screaming about the governments decision. However the second Trump says the same thing in America it’s suddenly a scandal.

Same tech, different politics.

Checked the Thailand situation in little more detail and they’re approving tens of billions in data-centre projects (TikTok alone ~$25B, plus AWS, Google, Microsoft, local players). Capacity is set to quadruple and there are real concerns about power strain, water and costs. Yet the government is actively enabling the build-out and there’s no equivalent mass “rebels will end up poor” moral panic.

Charoen Pokphand (CP) Group is the largest so I assume you direct some of your rage to them too?

Or to Stellar DC which Joint effort involving Stecon Group (construction firm controlled by the family of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul)?

Data centers are the backbone of the modern economy.

These selfish luddites are stopping technological progress. Do they not realize the state can appropriate at will?

Stupid leftists.

You do not disappoint in this reflexively anti-Trump chorus.

Motive first, facts second (if not at all).

Oh the irony......the biggest two issues with data centres are the demands placed on the electricity supply for energy and water for cooling.......both of which could be greatly eased with the use of renewable energy........

For ’tis the sport to have the president

I used to waste my time presenting facts to cultists. It took me too long to realize they ALWAYS reply in one or more of the following manners to facts:

(O) bfuscate

Not wasting any more time on fools.

You didn’t touch a nerve. You ran out of argument and reached for the schoolyard. If the facts were on your side you would have used them instead of the accent joke. English is fine. Your point isn’t.

OK, hurt your feelings. Got it. You really just don't get it. Maybe try asking AI to explain it to you? I'm done wasting electrons on this. Buh bye.

The original poster is struggling to keep up with your impressive debating skills. You truly excel in this area.

Trump loves data centers as they generate construction jobs on short term, so it improves job numbers on short term.

Your post doesn't make any sense, since the OP hasn't been involved in the discussion. Why they have these idiotic bots is anyone's guess.
