BANGKOK: -- Some advertisers have pulled their advertisements from Channel 3's news reporting programme hosted by well-known TV anchorman Sorayuth Suthasanajinda, according to the Media Agency Association of Thailand president Wanee Ratanaphol.

She said some groups of advertisers, notably those giant or international level companies, such as banks, have pulled out their commercial advertisements with regard to good governance.

She said the association had a meeting following the Criminal Court’s conviction of the celebrity TV anchorman but no decision was reached.

But she said all agreed to support good governance principles which is now a focus of talks after the Court’s ruling.

However it was up to the decision of clients whether they would continue to buy advertisements or to stop.

With regard to good governance, she admitted that big companies took the issue more serious.

However it remained the right of Channel 3 to consider whether to remove the programmes of the celebrity anchorman or to suspend his role.

Besides if Channel 3 adjusts the programming, it will also see whether it will have impact on its rating or not, and whether it’s clients would continue to buy airtime on the channel, she said.

However she made clear that the association would not interfere in Channel 3’s decision.

She said the association would have a statement on the issue today with regard to advertising on the programme.

She said if clients wanted to withdraw ads, the association will then notify Channel 3 as booking for ads on popular programme was based on monthly contract which now were booked till end of March.

Any cancellation would have to be on a monthly basis, she added.

His program could have been left to air (as it is), but with a different host. As for him, his ass should have been jerked immediately after the verdict, appeal or no appeal process.

But that's just the Thai way. That would mean loss of face. cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

I was amazed to see him yesterday on the show like nothing had happened. We are not talking minor offense but serious jail time - how can Channel 3 ignore this?

Other people, like mushroom people old people, gets thown into jail straight away, but this guy waltzes away after paying pocket money (for him) in bail.

Good that there are decent companies who take good governance seriously.

I liked Sorayuth and enjoyed watching his shows as did millions of viewers all over Thailand. He became a main fixture of daytime television and doubt his popularity can be replaced by someone else.

An intelligent man I wonder, why do they do these things? 13 years of fame and respect and then blown away in an instant. It seems that even educated men can be complete idiots.

It's called GREED. This country is constantly dragged down and behind by it.

And from earlier reports the boss of channel 3 also ran away after reportedly being involved in another event involving fire trucks.

Thai pbs news- Khunying Pornthip urges public to speak up against corruption and Sorayuth’s court case

http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/content/153271

Wellknown forensic expert Khunying Pornthip Rojanasunant called on members of the public not to just gossip about corruption scandals, including the one against news anchor Sorayuth Suthasnajinda, but to rise up to speak against them publicly.

The khunying who is also the spokesperson of the extraordinary committee of the National Reform Steering Assembly said Wednesday that members of the assembly have been lobbying for the assembly president to hold a debate on the issues of the reform of media ethical conduct and corruption in wake of Mr Sorayuth’s conviction by the Criminal Court.

She insisted that the proposed debate was not intended to put pressure on Sorayuth to resign because no one could pressure anyone to resign as the matter depend on each individual’s conscience.

She made clear that if she was invited by Sorayuth to join his programme as a guest she would turn it down “because the matter at issue now does not involve Sorayuth or Channel 3 but because the problem is that this is an issue of ethical crisis.”

As far as Sorayuth’s court case is concerned, Khunying Pornthip said the case is quite clear and there is no need for further evidences. Then she pointed out four proven facts about the case: there was the forgery of document; cheques were issued to the state agency in figures which were not rounded; MCOT has demanded payment of 138 million baht; NACC has faulted the suspected wrongdoers and, finally, the court has found them guilty.

That'll hurt, but he managed to get enough out of it to have his own show if he wants. Just not a cooking one, that'll end your career.

I hope its shows will end soon. I am tired to see Thais watching every morning its "news" on the most popular show, on the most popular TV channel.. Funny dogs, crimes, road accidents, super stars gossip and affairs, repeated and repeated again.....

Good move. The only way to get any justice in this country. Hit them in the pocket thumbsup.gif

Interesting editorial in yesterday's Post pointing out how much revenue his shows generated and how he was the station's ' star ' which is a pointer as to why they are so determined to avoid taking action.

The initial response had been that it's a personal matter which was then backed up by stating the offences had taken place before he started working at the station.

If ad revenue etc starts disappearing how long can they last before having to find some face saving way to act ?
