TMN installed a few years ago TV cables and then serviced the condo with TV as well as internet through the tv cable.

the plans started cheap, i think 100 baht less than 3bb, so the smallest plan must have been around 690 baht or something.

starting from november, any new clients within the building must pay about 15000 baht/year for their smallest plan which is now 12/2.

for a 15/3 plan, they ask for 33000 baht.

i suspect them of running a disloyal strategy - now that they have wired the building, they want to milk the cow, thinking that no other company can compete because of a captive market.

has anyone experienced the same?

i'm particularly criitical of their offer because i measured the international upload on their 20/3 plan to be consistently below 1 mbps.

Move!

no problem for me, because I'm not their customer :-)

just wanted to check if they had done the same thing in other buildings

Your new TMN price still seems to compare quite well with Sophon: http://sbnnet.co.th/residential.html

Presumably anyone who doesnt want to pay that price for TMN can have ADSL instead, and there's nothing stopping your committee from arranging to have two competing cable broadband systems in the building to allow for more choice.

You probably have difficulties reading the offers - TMN asks for nearly double SBN's price, and as far as I could see in my tests, SBN delivers solid 3 mbps upstream, instead of less than 1 mbps for TMN.

But the question was not to compare prices for internet by FIBER with prices for internet by TV CABLE, the subject was to know if TMN already doubled their prices alsewhere after initially offering competitive prices.

I dont have any problems at all, thanks.

Sophon yearly price: 10,000B (10Mbs), 14,900B (15Mbs)

TMN yearly price: 15,000B (12Mbs)

Looks quite similar to me.

When I had Sophon broadband I never got anything even remotely close to 3Mbs upload speed. I got the 1Mbs announced in the contract and that was it, though that was some time ago.

Also dont be misled by the term "fibre to the node". With FTTN the internal building distribution is still done via coax and has nothing to do with fibre. Both Sophon and TMN use fibre to the node and internal coax distribution in condo buildings, so I am comparing like with like. Fibre to the home (the much higher set of prices in that Sophon link) is a very different animal and is also available in most condos at higher cost.

I suspect that the higher price (33,000B) that you mention for TMN's better package may actually be FTTH, in which case you would need to compare it to Sophon's 20Mbs 25,900B package.

Again, there is nothing stopping your committee/management from arranging to have more than one fibre to the node provider, and also more than one fibre to the home provider. These dont even need to be the same providers as the two systems (node/home) use entirely separate internal distribution.

you are comparing apples and aranges.

TMN offers coax. I suppose they have fiber to the node though.

Regarding the 3 mbits upload with SBN, there is a special data plan for international traffic. I personally measured the bandwidth.

And no, no need to compare the 33k THB package to the 20 mbps package, because TMN also offers a 20 mbps package (still coming with quoted 3 mbps upstream performing at less than 1 mbps for international traffic), and this package is priced a measly 38.500 THB per year.

But again, this is not about comparison of 2 providers.

It's about a nearly 100% price increase after TMN won the bid for cabling the building and getting information on wether they pulled that stunt somewhere else.

In a condo, FTTN is fibre to some main box (usually located in the building service area, though possibly outside) and then existing internal building coax to the user. FTTH is a fibre cable all the way to the user. In my building we can have both and the prices are very different. As far as I know both Sophon and TMN now use FTTN in condo buildings as standard.

I believe that the TMN prices you are looking at are not for the same types of supply, and it is normal for FTTH to cost more.

If you prefer to concentrate on the particular TMN prices, and if you are certain that TMN have not improved some of their offers since the original installation which would explain the price increase, then as I mentioned your committee does have the option of inviting another operator to provide a simultaneous service and this seems to be the way to go. This may encourage TMN to review their prices.

Personally I have 3BB's 15/1.5 ADSL package for which I pay just under 10,000B/year and which I find to be perfectly adequate.

do you hold a capital share in TMN ?

no, the TMN offer is not FTTH, it's FTTN, but they don't market it as FTTN, they simply sell it as "internet".

They said FTTH was available, a 25/1 plan or was it 50/1, for 8800 per month or something if I remember well.

And again, this is about a change of pricing.

Before, TMN delived internet through coax, I believe it was a 8/1 plan or 8/0.5 or something along those lines for around 590 baht per month.

Yes, they upgraded the plan nominally to 12/2, but that's on the paper only due to poor upload performance.

Furthermore, residents' CHEAPEST option has gone from 590 per month, or 7080 baht / year to 15.000 / year - there are plenty of residents who are interested in cheap internet and not in an upgraded 12/2 plan for which they have no use.
