Beng
Is the roadwork at the Mae Rim end done ? Anyone been there recently ?
FolkGuitar
We rode up and around the loop from the Mae Rim end on Sunday. There is still a lot of road surface that hasn't been repaved, but nothing that caused us any problems for motorbike. There was very little car traffic and almost all of the tourist venues were pretty empty. No one at all around the various strawberry stands. So much for strawberry fields forever... MadMac
Is the junction with the new underpass now open for the 121 or still have to make that U-turn?
CMKiwi
Long time finished and all open for business.
MadMac
I mean the 121 going through over the underpass. Was still closed recently.
FolkGuitar
It's been open for several weeks now. However, we've seen the underpass closed for a day or two now and then...
luther
The underpass has been occasionally closed for parts of the day while they do electrical work inside the tunnel. It's been reopened by the afternoon. It has not been closed the last four or five days so maybe they are finished.
kjhbigv
Was up there a week ago and near Mae Rim waterfall a lot of road resurfacing being done and a LOT of dust, even though being watered. Probably a 3km stretch, passable on a motorbike, apart from that, fine. Edited March 9, 2016 by kjhbigv
jobin
What's at Mae Sa to attract tourists? A dry creek bed?

FolkGuitar
What's at Mae Sa to attract tourists? A dry creek bed? The road that runs through it. It's a delightful three-hour (if you include a stop for lunch at one of the numerous stream-side or mountain-view restaurants along the way) motorcycle ride for a nice afternoon. Once you're past the Botanical gardens, the road is a continuous series of smoothly curving turns though some very nice countryside. Although certainly nicer when the air is clear and you have the spectacular views from the rest area at the top, the ride is enjoyable all year round.
