14 provinces remain as drought-affected areas

BANGKOK, 10 March 2016 (NNT) - Chatchai Promlert, director general of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), disclosed that 14 provinces, 58 districts, 276 counties and 2,361 villages throughout the country have been declared drought-affected areas.

The DDPM has coordinated with the provincial authorities and other government agencies to scramble to solve drought problems which call for systematic water management and water distribution plans so that local villagers will have enough water for consumption during dry season or in times of a drought crisis in 2016, according to the department's director general.

Meanwhile, the "civil state" mechanism will be applied to create public awareness and understanding about the current water situation, water distribution plans and measures to prevent and solve the water shortage problems.

All government sectors have been suggested to set plans for water uses and to use water sparingly while farmers have been advised to refrain from growing extra crops of rice and turn to short-lived plants which need a relatively little volume of water.

Looks like the 14 provinces are top secreat.whistling.gif

Maybe the list of provinces is now a state secret to prevent a mass migration from them to Bkk where the water is plentiful, until July anyway !

Did the reporter ask for a list? Of course not, that would be rude and in the reporters view not his/her job.

No list needed to know if your village is affected or not.

Check if your neighbor install a new water tank and you'll know it.

Here in the village, I've already seen about 10 trucks bringing tanks w00t.gif

Right. That's how journalism works.
