CDC confirms significance of promotion of education

BANGKOK, 11 March 2016 (NNT) – The Constitution Drafting Commission has confirmed its intention to stress the significance of education in the draft charter.

CDC spokesman Norachit Sinhaseni said that the charter drafters have been busy reviewing the part of the draft Constitution, which focuses on education.

Mr. Norachit said that the CDC has made clear in the draft charter that all children are entitled to receive free basic education and members of the public should be encouraged to seek as many educational opportunities as possible, while efforts should be made to promote education throughout a person’s life.

He added that, under the draft charter, the government, local administrative organizations and the private sector have to work with each other to offer all levels of education and to set up a fund to help those in need of financial assistance as well as to utilize additional state budget to minimize educational inequality and to further improve educators.

The CDC spokesman also stated that the charter drafters have been placing an emphasis on all education-related issues and have taken into consideration all opinions from all parties when working on the draft Constitution.

Computer says no.

The ministry of private education prosecuted me for tutoring 10 children English after school in my home. Half of the children that used to come to me were learning English for free. The ministry ordered me to stop teaching them. I continue to teach the children English because they really need a lot of help. The ministry is gearing up to prosecute me again and I now face 1 year in jail for helping 3 and 4 year old to speak English. There are also hundreds of retiree living in Thailand that want to teach English in their spare time, but are not able to for fear of losing their visa and being kicked out of Thailand.

And then there are the thousands of native speakers that cannot get visa for work permits. They are not qualified to get a teachers licence, however they have a knowledge in English language and are absolutely essential for the improvement of English or Chinese speaking in this country. But the ministry of education refuse to address this issue. Most of the native speakers are leaving to neighbouring countries where they can get visa and tutor their language skills.

The ministry of education has absolutely no understanding of the constitutional right to give knowledge to another human being and continually create laws to prevent people from learning, most pointedly in the education of languages. Shame on them.

1) this is nothing but a bunch of platitudes.

2) this 2nd part is in the charter?

It's nonsense, but it seems that these guys are grasping for anything in the charter that looks half-way positive.... Maybe that is to distract the people from the fact that the "NCPO" plans to relocate itself to the Senate...

Just yesterday, I met a lovely girl that has been teaching English in a kindergarten. This kindergarten looked for a native speaker for more than 6 months. She is now leaving because she cannot get a visa to stay. The border runs are too expensive and time consuming of which she does not get paid for. Next month she will go back home. The kindergarten has not been able to find a replacement. My Chinese friend was teaching Chinese in a school, she had to go home because of visa issues.

These are just 2 of thousands of cases of language tutors being prevented from sharing the education of languages in Thailand. There's no point in having protection of life long learning in the constitution, if the moe create other laws to prevent people from learning. At an estimated guess, 80% of workers in the ministry of education have never even looked at the constitution 2007 and not likely to read future constitutions either.

Was she working legally? I.e work permit? If not she probably was getting a low salary. I recommend that the kindergarten she worked for should up their salaries for foreign teachers who are qualified then they would be able to keep their foreign teachers for a long time. No offense to those working without the work permit, you guys are the backbone to many schools in LOS. What you go through visa runs, passport renewals, paranoia, insecurity is enough to make anyone a nervous wreck without the teaching of uncooperative, spoilt brats. No, my dig is at schools who make big bucks off you guys and pay you peanuts. China has two levels for a teacher to work legally, the unqualified, and the qualified both get permits and the difference is about 10,000 baht in salary a month. Red tape land needs to wise up to the Chinese way and quick before there is a foreign teacher shortage.

Seems they are going backwards in Education, while preaching moving forward. Feel so sorry for the thousands of children wanting to learn English and their own government blocks this from happening. Such stupidity from the country's leaders is truly unbelievable.
