NLA’s subcommittee on religious affairs hosts seminar on anti-corruption through religion

BANGKOK, 13 March 2016 (NNT) – A subcommittee under the National Legislative Assembly has hosted a seminar to discuss religion and the fight against corruption.

The NLA’s subcommittee on religious affairs, which is under the committee on religions, arts, culture and tourism, joined the Young Buddhists Association of Thailand under royal patronage in organizing the seminar, which was entitled "the Role of Religion in Anti-Corruption".

The seminar was planned to help rid Thailand of corruption through the promotion of public awareness related to the threat of graft while encouraging all religions to join the government and play an important role in the fight against corruption at all levels.

Privy Council President Gen. Prem Tinsulanonda, chaired the opening ceremony and delivered a special speech, which discussed how Thais can lend a hand in the clampdown on corruption which is a long term committment.

Gen. Prem also expressed his belief that all five major religions in Thailand: Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Hinduism and Sikhism can be part of the mechanism to teach people to engage in such an effort, while stressing the importance of family-level engagement in instilling ethics and morals in the minds of people in order to prevent graft.
