I am on a 1yr extension of stay non-imm o. My stay will expire on April 14, however, since this is during the Songkran holidays, every year seems to take longer for the application to be processed. I want to apply for a further 60day extension to move the date to June. I asked about this the last time I was in Phuket Immigration, and they said it was ok to do. Does anyone know , especially Ubonjoe, as to what paperwork requirements are needed? Will I need to do this in the upper level, or down with the tourists downstairs? If I go just before, i.e a week or something, will they still process, or have to go more to the time? Normally, I will go for my 1yr renewal around 2-3 weeks before. Any advice would be appreciated.

You can apply for the extension up to 30 days early. That might be better than applying for the 60 day. You should save that one 60 day extension allowed per entry in case of a more important reason.

Your wife will need to be with you when you apply for the 60 day extension. You will need your marriage certificate plus a copy, copies of your wife's house book registry and ID card. You could probably do it a couple of weeks early.

You will need to do it where you would apply for the one year extension.

You should have no problem applying a couple of weeks early.

  • Form TM7 (the standard extension of stay application). Reason: Visit wife. Period of extension: 60 days.
  • Original marriage certificate and signed copy.
  • Signed copies of you passport pages: ID, Entry Stamp, Visa, Departure Card.
  • Signed copies of your wife's ID and Tabien Baan.
  • Maybe they will want form TM30. This is the form used by the Owner/House-master to report that you are staying with them.
  • 1,900 baht.
  • Your wife will need to go with you.
  • Forms can be downloaded here. http://bangkok.immigration.go.th/en/base.php?page=download

Thanks guys, this is important for me. I've been doing the extension during Songkran the last 7yrs, and it interfere's with everything as I normally work away. Last year it took 6weeks to process as there are holidays all around this time.

Ubonjoe as a thought to your alternative applying 30days before, I wouldn't be able to leave the country after 14th April if the approval isn't back from Bangkok, is that correct, since my re-entry permit would have expired?

You need a re-entry permit for the under consideration period that will be valid up to the report back date.

Not sure when Phuket starts the 30 days. If they started it when your extension ends you would have almost 60 days if you did it 30 days early.

Your applications are sent to division 6 headquarters in Hat Yai for approval not Bangkok.

Once you've been given a date to report back (under consideration period) you can apply for a re-entery permit to cover that period, but you must re-enter before the permit expires.
