BANGKOK: -- Government spokesman Maj-Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd briefly met with Constitution Drafting Committee chairman Meechai Ruchupan on Tuesday at the order of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha reportedly to patch up any misunderstanding between the CDC chairman and the prime minister.

After the 15-minute meeting with Mr Meechai, Maj-Gen Sansern said the prime minister wanted to assure the CDC chairman that he had no intention whatsoever to criticize or reprimand the former. The prime minister, said the spokesman, has high respect for Mr Meechai for his sacrifice to work on the new charter and for having to bear all the pressure being brought upon the CDC.

Mr Meechai, meanwhile, asked the prime minister not be worried about him, said Sansern.

The prime minister told the media after a meeting of the “four rivers” at the Government House on Tuesday that the CDC was not invited to the meeting and that the proposal of the “four rivers” would be submitted to the CDC for consideration during the amendment process of the charter draft.

The “four rivers” proposal includes: an appointed Senate comprising 250 members to be in office for five years with the defence permanent secretary, the supreme commander, the commanders of the three armed forces and the national police chief as six ex-officio senators; two election ballots – one for constituency MPs and the other for party list MPs; and opposition of political parties nominating candidates for prime minister’s post.

CDC President dismisses rumors of resignation plan

BANGKOK, 17 March 2016 (NNT) - The President of the Constitution Drafting Commission has dismissed rumors that he is planning to resign from the post.

CDC President Meechai Richupan said that he does not plan to leave his post because of reported pressure resulting from the submission of proposals related to the draft charter by the Four Rivers, consisting of the National Council for Peace and Order, the National Reform Steering Assembly, the National Legislative Assembly and the Cabinet.

Mr. Meechai also said that he is not giving up, as he took up the job with the intention of doing his best for the country.

He also insisted that the 21-member charter drafting team is still working as an independent body and planning to complete its work by the deadline.

The CDC President went on to say that the charter drafters will look at the proposals of the Four Rivers after the government completes the presentation of the detail of their suggestions.

The kiddies in the sandbox squabbling again ? It seems to becoming a regular feature so stories of power struggles may have some credence.

Who will be dispatched to clear up the ' misunderstanding ' between the PM and his cronies and the general public though ?

There's no misunderstanding really as the message from on high is quite clear, we are in charge and in no hurry to go, we will not tolerate any opposition or criticism and if you want to comment on the charter you must register or else !

Just when the charter comments register be expanded into other fields just to tighten the control screw even further ?

INSECURITY ROCKS AND MOST CERTAINLY RULES.

No surprise in the composition of the non elected Senators, if they had to be on a ballot paper they'd all lose, after two years , the Junta is now showing its true colours ......................................coffee1.gif

IMO the junta started showing its true colours (hint: it ain't red) right after the coup. It's just that some people are slow in catching up.

Government spokesman ... met with Constitution Drafting Committee chairman Meechai Ruchupan ... to patch up any misunderstanding between the CDC chairman and the prime minister

This one-on-one access with Meechai should be available to the whole public. I'm sure the PTP and Democrats would like to also patch up any misunderstandings Meechai has about what constitutes a democratic constitution. The same applies to the whole of the Thai electorate. However, the public has been only allowed to submit proposals for consideration - no dialogue allowed.

It appears that only the Four Rivers are allowed insider dialogue with Meechai. That challenges CDC's claim to independence from Junta pressure.
