BANGKOK, 20 March 2016 (NNT) – The Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) has confirmed that suggestions made by the Four Rivers group, do not inhibit its work, nor will the suggestions affect the main principle of the new charter.

However the CDC spokesperson Norachit Sinhaseni, said today the drafting team would soon start reviewing the suggestions of the Four Rivers. The group includes the Cabinet, the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), the National Legislative Assembly (NLA), and the National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA).

The spokesperson gave a strong assurance that these suggestions would not have an impact on the main principles of the draft, but acknowledged that the Four Rivers’ input would be incorporated into transitional provisions, adding that the CDC fully understood the concerns of the four bodies of reform. He said the CDC would do its best, despite tremendous pressure and criticisms from many sides.

In reference to the chapter concerning the Senate, he said the Four Rivers had suggested that the Upper House should not have the power of impeachment especially during the period of political transition, but should be allowed to hold a no confidence motion against the government.

CDC should welcome all suggestions to put a strong constitutional to the people to vote on.

Good luck to them and let the majority decide at the end of the day.

Good luck to them and let the majority decide at the end of the day.

Why? The majority has voted the PTP into power on several occasions, only to see the old guard overrule the will of the people. Why should what the majority want mean anything this time around??

the CDC fully understood the concerns of the four bodies of reform.

That's about the greatest understatement made since Prayut said he wasn't planning a military coup.

The second greatest understatement was made by CDC Chairman Meechai last month:

everyone should accept what the majority decides as all are living in a democratic society.
