Drought poses no immediate threat to meat production

BANGKOK, 21 March 2016 (NNT) – The ongoing drought crisis in Thailand is not affecting meat production, says the Ministry of Commerce.

Wiboonlasana Ruamraksa, Director General of the Department of Internal Trade (DIT), said recently that despite the drought crisis, farmers across the country are still able to supply to the market 35,000 pigs and 5 million chickens which is the amount of pork and chicken consumed on a daily basis.

She went on to say that egg production remains stable as 42 million chicken eggs are produced every day. Although prices of eggs have gone up slightly, consumers can still afford them as a staple food.

Meanwhile, the price of pork has not changed, standing between 125-130 baht per kilogram.

Of course not. Water diverted from rice farms and villages into corporate and multinational-owned pig and chicken operations. 'Pigs before people' should be the government mantra.

Also not affected will be car washes, golf courses the filling up of swimming pools or any other activities related to water use that may affect the lifestyles of the privileged few.

Don't worry about it! In a related article here it says the Mekong water level is rising. So no problem
