An investigation into misconduct by Ratanakkiri provincial prison director Tin Sovanny has cleared him of any major misdeeds, while his deputy – who was among the 32 prison staff who filed a complaint against him – was shifted to a post at the Interior Ministry, officials from the ministry said yesterday.

Mr. Sovanny had been accused in December of 14 acts of misconduct, including having sex with female inmates, allowing inmates to use cell phones and using 65 others as servants to clean his home and make handicrafts at a workshop.

Although the investigation by the Interior Ministry found that Mr. Sovanny made some “small mistakes,” the complaint was primarily motivated by conflicts among prison staff, Nut Savna, deputy director of the General Department of Prisons, said yesterday.
