Since you said you will only have a small income, you proably wont meet the 40k per month needed to get a marriage visa, giving you 1 year stays in thailand.

You could apply for a 1 year Non Immigrant "O" visa before you come here. Should be easy to get if you apply at your local Thai Embassy in your home country. That visa will give you unlimited 90 day stays in Thailand for 1 year. So every 90 days you just do a border crossing and come back in with a new 90 day stamp. If you do a border crossing the day before you visa expires, you will get another 90 days, making you visa really good for 15 months. If you meet the requirements then for an extension, you can extend this visa at immigration before it expires, but you will need to proove a total of 40k per month income between you and your wife. If you cant do that, you just have to leave and go to a thai embassy abroad and get a new 1 year visa. Repeat that process every 15 months.....................

Firstly your wife's business interests will have no bearing on your visa status, so forget that avenue.

Since you have no/little pension/income but you do have some capital you have two

options (for a long stay visa).

1. You can get a retirement visa if you are 50 or over and can show 800,000 Baht

in a Thai bank ( In your name only ).

2. You can get a visa based on marriage if you can show supporting documents and

you can show 400,000 baht in a Thai bank ( In your name only ).

In both cases you would start off by coming to Thailand on a single entry 90 day

'non immigrant 'O' visa' obtained from your nearest consulate. You would then

change over to a one year etension pior to the expiry of the 90 day visa.

Note that the retirement option 1. is by far the least hassle.

You should also note the requirement for the money o be in the bank for 3 months

beore you go in for the one year extension :o

With all due respects, the 400,000 baht in the bank would not be an opton for him as he would be a new aplicant. He would have to prove a joint income of 40,000 baht a month.

It sounds as if your wife should start drawing 40k per month income from her business and obtain visa extension for you using that proof (tax payments).

Retirement will require 800k (at probably low interest).

400k deposit is not an option for you.
