Coming back after overstay & 20.000 baht fine

Recommended Posts

Just get a Visa!

The person needs to come back quick.

That's ironic he had all the time in the world when he overstayed but now has an urgent need to come back. There will be a variety of answers to your question but ultimately it is at the discretion of the immigration officer whether or not entry into Thailand is allowed. Based upon your post I would think he would be suspicious given the latest climate in regards to people staying here illegally. I certainly would be a bit nervous if I had over stayed to the maximum penalty and did a simple visa run coming back on a tourist visa.

I am not being judgmental but if I were an immigration officer I would certainly pull your friend aside to see what exactly he/she is doing. It doesn't seem from the information you provide that there is any legitimate reason for your friend to be in Thailand.

Went with my son last week to Phnom Penh. He had overstay of 8 years followed by 3 x 60 day TV then 8 month overstay. Paid 20,000 at the airport on the way out. Submitted his passport to the embassy in Phnom penh and picked it up the following day with a further 60 day TV. No problem.

I took the plane out to Kuala Lumpur the 18th and return the same day. The immigration said no way and returned me back to KL. Went to Penang and got a TV and they hassled me at immigration but eventually let me in. And im a Scandinavian btw.

When you were denied entry to Thailand what was stamped in your passport?

Was the reason for denial written in English?

Could you post a picture of the stamp?

To add... Even those that have all the knowledge and are giving the correct advice that your friend can return.

It's the rumors or someone with zero knowledge can plant that seed of dought, that a return may not be possible or without problems.

In your friends case, I was in a bigger predicament, and returned with no problems..

Thailand is enforcing strict policies on overstayers. I would expect a blacklist is implemented.

Read the OP again.

His friend left and paid his fine before the new rules were implemented.

It seems you missed that part of his post..

Sounds like he is nicely setup for his next overstay! Edited by wordchild

No stamp, just a whole lot of paperwork. They called the airline and they had to bring some personnel to escort me. Just told me i couldnt come back before i had a proper visa.

Ok thanks.

Did you have an onward flight booked out of Thailand?

That was never the problem. Cause i told them if flight onward is the problem i book one now to any place you want me to. They just kept on about the new rule and i had to get a proper visa. Even when i had the visa, the overstay was the only concern, nothing about flight, where i stay or living money at all.

I'm just trying to figure out on what basis they could formally deny entry. As you didn't have an onward flight they probably used that as the excuse. Unless you're banned they can't legally deny entry based on the overstay.

If you were denied entry at an airport, you must have a stamp in your passport that states the reason for the denial. It is in Thai but, if you post a scan here, there are plenty who can translate and tell you why. There is no new rule I know of that could have affected your ability to reenter March 18.

Not again as he would be banned. He will have a valid visa in the next few weeks which will cover him for some years to come.

Thailand Elite? Yes, that should do it.

There is no new rule (that we know of) but not having an onward ticket is a reason, apparently, for denying anyone visa exempt entry. It must be a regulation because it's not covered by the immigration act, but I've never seen this regulation. Whether or not a denial stamp is required when denying entry for not having an onward flight is what I am trying to ascertain.

Watch this space but I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes a rule that those with an overstay, but not banned, can only re-enter with a visa.

I just want to say that in the past week I am seeing several threads from new accounts (less than 5 posts) stating various things regarding overstay.

I want to advise all readers to exercise caution and skepticism, and ignore that sort of information until confirmed by members who have a decent number of posts (hundreds or thousands).

MY story can be confirmed by fellow Tv member wich i took the flight back home with from Penang
