MWA confirms adequate water during Songkran festival

BANGKOK, 28 March 2016 (NNT) – The Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA) is calling on the general public to help use water sparingly, promoted through a popular conservation campaign.

The MWAs' Director of Corporate Communication Division, Mrs. Jutharat Somjittranukit, stated that the agency had called on the public to save water through a project entitled “Help People, Help Government by Helping Save Tap Water”. In 2015, this water conservation campaign was met with great public support.

Under this campaign, the MWA is calling on the people in all sectors in Bangkok, Nonthaburi and Samut Prakarn provinces to save water to fight a drought crisis. The campaign's award winners are obliged to reduce water consumption by at least 10 percent or five cubic meters per day between March and April 2016.

She confirmed that there would be a sufficient supply of water for the Songkran festival, but adds that everyone should use water wisely and play with water in an appropriate amount during the annual water splashing festival.

Who comes up with these catchy project titles?

And as for rewards for conservation, there should be massive fines and use restrictions in play by now.

No sign of rain in the parched north and my near neighbours lawn would be good for bowls it is so lush with water spraying 247.

Almost everyday we see headlines assuring people there will be enough water for Songkran.

How about for fish farms and fruit orchards and other business that needs water to survive the hot season?

I guess that is not so important

Not that much into reservois handling Songkran, but what happens after it might worry a bit whistling.gif

Enough water during Songkran, well that's all good then.

Water for Songkran is becoming like the issue of road safety over the same period plus New Year and the rest of the year doesn't matter.

Why worry , the weather forecasters

combined with the seeding programe

will replenish all , EL nino

should be changed to EL No no ,

fiddle while Rome burns!

everyone seem to think this is going to be a single year drought. i understand why with the El Nino event.

imagine if this were to continue just one more year.

and the flip side, are they ready for the floods?

It sounds a bit dumb to ask people to use water sparingly and in the same sentence indicate there will be enough water for Songkran.

Why we still need to use it sparingly if there is adequate supply?

It will be interesting to hear the official comment once Songkran is over, and the dire requirement to ration water & of course impose a price increase - Obviously everyone will have used more water than expected during the festival, everyone knows the real reason is the Thai government didn't want to publically announce that restrictions should be imposed during the Songkran period otherwise it may put some tourists off from coming to Thailand, lost revenue big problem...!!!

If not, they will just ramp up the magical rain- making, cloud- seeding and other >deleted<...coffee1.gif

Party now pay later for bottled water.
