MAHA SARAKHAM:-- Monks fed up with thieves trying to steal their trees have built cages around them!

The drastic measures have been taken by monks and villagers at the temple of Pa Ban Nong Bua Thong in the Mahasarakham area.

Police were even called Monday after a gang had fired warning shots as the monks tried to protect their trees.

Fortunately the would be robbers were scared off....for now!

The abbot of the temple is fed up and has complained to the local police that they need to do something to help protect his valuable blackwood trees from the gang who he fears will try again.

Arm the monks with AK47. whistling.gif

Or guard dogs to catch then in the act. But then again, they might be barking up the wrong tree !!!!

I doubt the blackwood tree could /would be considered for any reason other than its monetary value by the potential timber thieves as well as the monks. Its probably more about who is going to profit from the harvest of said trees.

I would doubt the monks did any physical labor in building cages to protect the trees. Never seen the old monks work up a sweat unless its is extremely hot when they are out taking food from the locals. The police have enough to do rather than posting guards on a grove of trees. Tell the monks to spend the nights sleeping next to the trees, in shifts, and enjoy nature and the wildlife.
