webfact
Video of Thai police making ‘Gladiator’ style arrest goes viralThaivisa Reporters Taming a drunk.....Thai style!KHON KAEN:-- Inventive police on video subduing a violent drunk with some very low tech Thai equipment in a Khon Kaen street went viral as it was shared multiple times, reports Thaivisa News. Not guns or tasers or even mace for this smart bunch - just a few simple prongs and a fishing net!Ok, so it was only a training exercise by the Ban Mai force but the "Gladiator" style arrest wowed netizens. In the viral video one group of officers distract the offender with their approach using shields while another team sneak up behind and throw a net over the hapless drunk. The prongs secure the victim to the tarmac.Facebook users mostly marvelled at the use of interesting, low tech Thai equipment usually used by farmers while others said it was unlikely to be so easy in a real situation.Still, no one was shot in the making of this video and the drunk lived to drink another day!-- 2016-03-

canuckamuck
Those particular cast nets are hard to throw correctly. I wonder if police have a specialist net division or do they have civilians on call?

AlQaholic
I don't get it, the net method is pretty much commonplace nowadays, in the west they have guns that shoot nets...nothing new or inventive about it. StatlerandWaldorf
I really liked this. The Thai non confrontational way of settling things. It does show ingenuity, but from reading the news recently I am no longer convinced that Thai's are not confrontational. At least the 5 year old girl lying in hospital from a sword wound to her face would take some convincing.
mrrizzla
This was a training exercise no? Would a net really incapacitate a person so easily? He hit the floor so quickly.
Jimbo2014
Next we need an edict to change the tight brown uniforms to skimpy leather outfits with appropriate arm bands.

Thian
Then why do policemen carry guns? They better all carry a fishingnet In BKK they allready carry a garbage-tricycle. Just shoot the attacker in the leg, much easyier and it shows what happens if one attacks the police.

slapout
With the response time I have seen or heard about by the RTP, in any situation good or bad, the fellow with the knife could have killed several people and been down the road on his motorbike, 20 kilometer, having another drink, before a pair of policemen arrived on scene, much less the number involved in the training. This may be a good method of catching those motorcycles who refuse to stop at police check points. Position several net throwers down the road a hundred meters and let them show their talent. For those driving vehicles thru, they have what are puncture sticks to throw out in front of the approaching vehicle. Maybe the RTP want to apply for patent rights on this procedure for their new training manuel.
