anyone with experience on hand held garmins, thinking Etrek20

Featured Replies

I am looking into this one for back road trips in Thailand, Burma and Cambodia using the http://www.gpstravelmaps.com/gps-maps/

Garmin offers a map for Thailand but only bundled wit other SE Asian countries i will never visit.

any helpful suggestions/comments?

If you buy an Asia map from Garmin US, you will be very disappointed. The native Thailand map from ESRI is the best Thailand map available.

Yep. Best map is the one of ESRI/ NOSTRA.

The most current version is CN Thailand 2015.20.

I don't know if that is exactly the same map that is on the Garmin GPS. The map in the Garmins has nearly every navigable by car roads but you can't expect it to have hiking trails.

Removed an off-topic post.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

I use my Etrek for measuring land plots, that's about it :)

Have you looked a the Garmin Montana series? I have had one for a couple of years, I find it to be very good and the battery lasts about 16 hours.

I also use OSM Mapping rather than the Garmin maps. Used in Northern Thailand, Laos and the Balkans.
