BANGKOK, 6 April 2016 (NNT) – The Cabinet has approved a plan to develop the nation's digital economy and digital government with 3-year time frame, according to the government spokesman.

Government Spokesman Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd has revealed the outcome of today's Cabinet’s meeting, which saw the approval of the digital economy development plan and the digital society development plan. The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology has been designated as the main agency responsible for this task.

The plans covers four aspects of development, namely the economy, society, human resources, and the government, with the aim to push Thailand as one of the leading countries to drive forward digital development, in keeping with the 20-year National Strategy.

Government agencies are now required to submit operational plans in order to acquire their budget for digital development projects.

The government spokesman added the Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has expressed his wishes to successfully implement the digital development plan to enhance the nation’s competitiveness and further facilitate the economy, especially among the SME sector, which are Thailand’s key economic drivers.

".....the aim to push Thailand as one of the leading countries to drive forward digital development" really? Thailand a leading country in digital development, come on this has to be a joke......it is isnt it?

??????? at least he avoided the word 'hub'. Yup leaders in internet censorship and monitoring.

I just read that Whatsapp is encrypting ALL messages, nobody can read them. How long will it take before LINE also has that?

How's that Internet Chokepoint, I mean Gateway, project going?

For this government, I can imagine upgraded rail lines. Three years for development of a digital economy, given the paucity of foreign investment at present, is just fantasy.

3 years would be a hell of a task for Silicon Valley but for Thailand, impossible
