Cabinet passes draft regulations on white shrimp farming

BANGKOK, 6 April 2016 (NNT) – The Cabinet has approved draft regulations related to white shrimp farming in a bid to ensure higher quality and safety of Thai shrimps.

Following the weekly Cabinet meeting, Deputy Government Spokesperson Maj Gen Weerachon Sukhontapatipak announced that the Cabinet agreed to the proposed ministerial regulations on the enforcement of production standards for white shrimp farming.

Maj Gen Weerachon pointed out that marine shrimps are one of Thailand’s most important export products but the white shrimp farming sector was recently plagued by the outbreak of Early Mortality Syndrome.

In an effort to restore confidence in the quality and safety of shrimp products from Thailand, the deputy spokesman said the new regulations on white shrimp farming were given the green light as they clearly stipulate practices by which farmers will have to abide.
