NLA to propose additional question attached to public referendum

BANGKOK, 7 April 2016 (NNT) - The Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) is going on a tour to educate the public about the draft charter, while the whip of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has expressed his support for an additional question to be voted on in the upcoming public referendum.

NLA Vice President Surachai Liengboonlertchai revealed that the legislature has agreed the referendum should include an additional question regarding the government's composition during the five-year political transitional period. The question will be a combination of the questions put forth by members of the National Reform Steering Assembly and NLA. The NLA plans to vote on the proposed question on April 7 before forwarding it to the Election Commission the same day.

NLA Spokesperson Jetn Sirathranont said the NLA whip will pick only one question to be voted on. The legislative body will also vote on a bill regarding penalties for those who incite conflict and obstruct the voting process.

conflict .... a serious disagreement or argument

PM Prayut had said that although he may disapprove, criticism over the draft constitution is a basic rights of the people. Unlikely in reality..

I would guess one of those penalties will be a five-year ban from public office ... just in time to prevent PTP leadership from the next national elections in 2017.
